To save some cash, get mild steel. If you found a muffler second hand, you can get away a catback knocked up for less than $500 including the price of a second hand muffler ($100-$200). I have always had mild steel, and to the naysayers who say it doesn't last as long as stainless or it's shite, you wont own the car long enough, plus i reckon mild steel sounds better.

That doesn't sound to bad, but I sort of see it as though I'd be half doing the job because in the long run I'd want a complete stainless set up.
I might go have a chat with the local muffler shop and see what they think about the x-force one (I found a 2.25 http://www.ebay.com....984.m1423.l2649)
I was quoted about 350 by them for a magnaflow + labour and tip I think

Anyway, torqued to spec is just the manuals way of saying 'we couldn't get it any tighter, see if you can'.

I've got an xforce oval muffler sitting in the shed, will probably need to have the hangers adjusted but other then that should be a problem for any exhaust shop to sort out. PM me if you interested

Cannons are shit. Full stop. Don't do it.Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

They sound shit, they look shit and cops will pin you for it every 200m.

Get a proper brand muffler such as whats been discussed above, that way when you do a conversion you can keep the same muffler. Get one put on with a 2.5" inlet, which will be fine for NA and good for turbo later on.

I was looking at a name brand cannon, eg magnaflow or xforce..... Will an xforce twin tip be louder then a stock muffler?

LOL cannon and you don't want loud? Haha!

Even name brand cannon's are loud, I used to have an X-force one ... got over it in like 5 seconds flat.

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Well, near anything aftermarket will be louder than stock. Opt for a nice oval muffler, twin tips (aesthetically)  will depend on what your driving. Twin tips only really work well on a Gen1. Not much room in the bumper relief on a Gen2 or 3 for twin tips.

But since you said its an NA 2.0L im assuming you have an Impreza? Twin tips should be fine on that. Grab a reputable brand oval muffler with a 2.5" inlet, done.

That's why I'm not a fan of the Nissan Silivia range, purely because of the exhaust

SR20s sounds like goats balls without a cannon haha.

Don't know why their owners continue to cannon-ise their Silvia's (wait - any car for that matter) when there are some really nice exhausts out there.

OP, read that line above. There are companies out there that make quality proper exhausts. Hurricane, Hitech, X-Force, etc. Do yourself a favour and get one of those. They aren't that expensive and you'll just end up getting one in the end anyway!

Yep! They look good, sound great and are CHEEAP!!

I had an X-Force Varex on my old Outback. The mechanism shat itself which turned me off the whole idea but the noise was good.

I also had an X-Force oval muffler on the XT with an STi tip. Sounded awesome but the opportunity came up for a Hitech oval muffler with twin tips for a great price. You don't turn that kind of awesomeness down ;)
