The Subaru Outback has been updated for the 2014 model year with tougher exterior styling and a $500 price rise across the range.

Refreshing the Outback are dark-tinted headlights, a set of dark grey alloy wheels and matching front grille trim.

The side sills and cladding, wheel arch guards, front mud flaps and roof rails (with integrated cross bars) are finished in black, contrasting with lighter front and rear underbody guard protectors.

Subaru says the exterior enhancements offset the $500 price rise, claiming that they add more than $2500 value to the 2014 Outback.

Subaru Australia managing director Nick Senior says the Outback’s revised exterior design is a result of the brand listening to the requests of its customers.

“We’ve had a lot of customer feedback suggesting owners would like a slightly tougher-looking Outback with greater body protection, which is especially useful on rural roads where this wagon rates highly,” Senior said.

The updates come just eight months after Subaru launched the 2013 model year Outback, which brought with it price cuts, a revised petrol engine and upgraded standard equipment levels.

The CVT-equipped Outback diesel joined the range two months later in March.

Subaru has sold 2750 Outbacks in Australia so far this year, down 15 per cent compared with the same period in 2012. Its share of the large SUV segment has slipped from 4.6 to 3.9 per cent as rivals like the Holden Captiva 7, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Jeep Grand Cherokee have gained ground.

2014 Subaru Outback manufacturer’s list prices:

  • 2.5i CVT – $38,990
  • 2.5i Premium CVT – $43,490
  • 2.0D manual – $40,490
  • 2.0D CVT – $42,990
  • 2.0D Premium manual – $43,490
  • 2.0D Premium CVT – $45,990
  • 3.6R Premium auto – $57,990

Looks chunky as! Almost military spec.

I'd chuck some big tyres under it, a body roll bar support and some massive spotties on the roof.

And a shotgun rack.

I put up with people from amnesty, red cross and now the cancer council almost daily hounding me!! Throw in the greens, green peace, unhcr, save the forking children and I've well and truly hit my limit for the number of fuckstains wanting me to sign something or give money. Seriously cubts,  :fork: right off.

It's nice

As soon as she hands it to you, slowly take of your pants, then, while staring her straight in the eyes rub it against the tip of you penis, while continuing your painfully intense gaze whisper to her;

"My eye is watering, this might be a bit hot"

I should just convert to single, right?

Damn. I actually really like it to be honest. Headlights and all. A job well done Subaru! Can't wait to see these on the road. Definitely an upgrade from the current Gen V's.

Hi,

Also, reporting on a $500 price rise is pretty gay.

Cheers,

Nik

Agreed, I genuinely struggle to understand why, but the motoring industry is so farking precious when it comes to MSRP to the point that they make a song and dance over a matter of a couple of hundred dollars.... stupid really, as soon as the dealer gets it he adds his dealer delivery charges and what not on top anyways... and when you are forking out $40K for a car for instance, $500 is negligible.

I have to say, I am not excited by the styling of this outback, but I don't hate it at all.
