XML is more for holding configuration settings not really querying things.

Php will be the go.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

No one has mentioned Toshiba laptops.. I'm on to my 2nd in 6 or so years. Great piece of kit! What are people's opinions?

Also, all these 16Gb of RAM; you better be using 64 Bit operating, as 32 can only utilise a max of 2 or 3GB RAM, can't remember which..

Toshiba were really good about 3 years ago. Now I wouldn't buy one. Quality has dropped quite a bit.

I've just upgraded to OS X Mavericks. Not a bad update. A few additional programs and features. I don't know why but I'm all for upgrades and updates to software. Click here for the full list of features.

At least Apple didn't charge for you that update like they normally do.

I was surprised as well... It's the first time they've offered the upgrade for free I think. At least since I started using OS X.

Well they are patches really, not new operating systems in themselves - so they should be cheap/free.

Depends on what you need it for. I'm a bit of a mac fan at the moment since I bought one for my work computer but you wont get much apple with a grand lol. I hate Win8 so much.

Uni work/some games

Really after an all rounder, I tend to do a bit of everything.

And nah, haven't got Mac money. I'll stick with PC
For now and maybe down grade to
Win 7

Ah been there. I had a Toshiba when I went to uni. Still works 7 years later and its under my bed. The cool kids had Macs, but at the time I didn't have much say (was bought for me as a gift).

Personally for a laptop, I prefer them without the dedicated gaming graphics card. All that does is kill your battery life if you cant disable it and I literally never gamed other than the one time I 'tried it out' on my Toshiba, which had an Nvidia 7300. The intel chips can pack enough punch to entertain depending on the processor. A nice balance of battery life, screen res and ram/cpu is all you need in my opinion. I am getting about 8hrs out of my 13" retina macbook on battery. There are a couple of ultrabooks getting around with good battery life too.

Toshiba or Lenovo would be my pick.. maybe get one with a 256gb SSD and keep an external/nas, I never store much data on my operating system drive in case it packs it in or the device gets stolen.

Look at the HP Envy 15-J041TX..

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

MSY have some cheap gear, might head up one day and pick up one of the cheap laptops.

Anyone messed around with Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrencies?

Has any one changed a Nexus 7 screen?

I got given 2 of them for free.

1 has a cracked screen, but worked fine previously.

The second has a good screen, but has charging issues.

So I was I was gonna try and make a good one out of 2 dud ones?
