Territory's are heavy as fark on fuel. Go the sport wagon. or lib 3.0L.. it will tow most shit around, you would want to be towing a pretty farking big boat before you would worry about it not sticking to the road.

I voted the XT. Got one and still love it. Fits heaps of sh1t in it, and the newer model is bigger inside and a nicer drive.
As Tony Montana would say:
In this country, you gotta make the money first.
Then when you get the money, you get the power.
Then when you get the power, then you get the women.

OK.. I've heard a few other people saying that they are shite with fuel consumption. Boat would be between 17-20 ft. SO not small but not too big either.

Thanks Frank. Don't the Fozzy's share their interior layout with the Impreza's?

I really like the Disco3. I'd go for the TDV6 HSE if I was going to go one of those. Unfortunately they might be just out of my price range at the moment. :( I'd also really like a Range Rover. Maybe I should just save up for a Disco or Rangie.

RR screams "lookatmoilookatmoi" too much.
Disco3 HSE TDV6 = magic.

Considered a defender? A little agricultural though.... which is not for everyone.... but I can dig it :)

If you're looking for a refined 4x4, you're looking for a 4x4 for the wrong reasons IMO. Defenders are built like a brick shit house. Does it have to be a wagon Chris? Have you considered a dual cab Hilux or something along those lines? They do the job exceedingly well...

Already got access to a Defender Xtreme 90! A black one! It looks evil.
It's setup for complete offroad/long trips with long range dual tanks, long range CB's, full length roof racks with 2 roof mounted spare wheels, snorkel, racks for tools/jacks, solar trickle charge and 12v supply and a off road camper trailer to top it off.
It lives at Dad's place down at the beach. I only get to use it if I want to go off roading e.t.c. It is indeed an awesome machine but there is really no need for another one.

I know the Rangies can be a bit of a poser mobile. The old man had a Vouge a few hears ago and despite all of the poserisms attached to them, it was a really amazing car!

Paul, despite the Range Rovers and Discoveries being refined, they are among the most capable 4x4's in the world, so you'd be wrong in saying that a refined 4x4 isn't a proper 4x4.

I'm not interested in a ute/pickup at all.

I was insinuating soft-roaders mainly. Not the Disco or range rover.

Ford Fairmont. Know a fella that towed a WW1 era tank with one...

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

Hahaha bit of British love :P I don't mind the Discovery 3 and range rovers. My pop has a TD discovery (albeit an older one now) which has all but fallen to bits.. is a 95 model and everything that could fall apart/brake etc has. I mean everything as in Motor gearbox transfer diffs airconditioning etc. bumpers falling off (never had a hit or bumped into anything) but I do think that the new D3 range might be better. As for range rovers... well I have had them in the family since I can remember, Dad has always had them, Has a RR Vogue V8 at the moment with a sports exhaust.. sounds awesome once it builds revs.

Everything falls to bits at some point. Not really worth stressing about.

I'm down to these options in deciding on which wagon I'd like to get when I upgrade my car. (in the next year or so, yes, I like to plan ahead) What do you guys think?

I'm after something with room, hence the wagon. After a bit of grunt and has the ability to tow a boat/trailer. Looking for something with a bit of comfort and a few luxury options.

Any other suggestions other than those in the poll would also be welcomed.

Cheers!

went for a drive in a legacy diesel the other day...pull pretty good from 1500 to 3500...also 4.9l/100k..had typical diesel rattle, mate said it was noisy when cold but he liked it...

Any word on the towing capacity of these Shane?

The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking the Disco3 will be my replacement vehicle!

Same! My sister just bought a TDV6 SE. Very nice car and pulls like an Elephant. Nice and stable on the road due to the approx 2 tonne weight.
Economy isn't great, but not too bad for a car of it's size. Approx 9-10l/100.

Outback Diesel towing weights are as follows:

750 kgs unbraked
1700 kgs braked
