I'm doing a manual conversion on my car, just wondering If I will be able to remove the harness without removing the ac system. I have pulled the dash from my donor car but can't really figure out how to remove the loom without pulling the ac unit out.

Gen 2 liberty

Thanks, rob.

Not sure how it is on the Gen 2, but on a Gen 3 it would've been impossible. The loom runs hard up against the firewall - so there would've been no way to get to the loom without removing the AC unit first.

Yep sounds like the gen 2. Basically no room and I assume that they have secured it behind there somehow.

Yeah there were loom ties clipping it into the firewall.

Ah well i won't bother and just see how I go integrating.

I'll keep the manual harness just Incase I can't get it going.

hey mate.. what are you worried about?

the heater core and blower boxes need to come out but thats all...

if you need some photos let me know i can dig some up from my conversion but you dont need to remove anything that requires regassing etc.

Didn't realise that!

So support bar off and just the bolts around the top of the box, is that it?

I thought the white box in the middle contained the lines that has a/c gas in them.

Middle white box is the heater so it will have coolant through it. The black and white box on the left hand side is the AC and filter unit. Looks like your loom goes over the top of them - Easy!

thats an GX EJ22... slightly different plugs but same layout.

you should just have to remove the Heater core and the Fan box on the left... the middle box can stay.. and be wiggled a fair bit too...

Im trying to find my photos from the conversion but they appear to have gone missing :|
Probably on the Laptop but CBF going to get it :P

Thanks mate!

I'll have a fiddle with my donor car and see what I can manage.
Is that diagram from the fsm?

As above no need to remove the ac unit. Just remove the support bar, the fan, the heater core and basically anything else that is in the way and you should be left with just enough room to work around the ac bits. It is fiddly but can be done.

yeah it is.. well one of them.. i have found you generally have to cross reference between 3 different FSM's to get the right info for our AUDM Gen2

Or get a Haynes manual. They're a bit expensive but they're made for audm cars

ECU is different on auto/manual (well it was for my 98 RX wagon anyway)

I just swapped in the box and ran with the auto ECU (when it was still N/A)

Also, when I swapped harnesses for my conversion I removed everything, just made it so much easier to run and for access. You don't want to half arse it and end up with a rattle.

A while ago I bought the genuine manual that contains the wiring diagrams through import monster. It contains every bit of information for all engine and transmission combinations that you could want. So far I have found it be completely accurate with my car.
