Looking at getting a Gen4 turbo
What's the real diference between the two?
Are there much internal diferance or is it just mainly cosmetics ? Are there much suspension and engine differences?
I was told the tune by sti was not a JDM import but a Australian modification.
What

Tuned by STI was just a parts bin special.

TBSTI Has :

Mesh Grille
STI Lip spoilers ( F & R )
Brembo's
Enkei 18" Wheels
Quad Tip mufflers
Strut Tower Brace
STI seats
Mild Tune

I'm not sure but i think it scored the proper STI 6MT gearbox aswell.

That's all i can think of, interior wise i think it's the same, probably a small plate somewhere saying the "build number". If i recall i think Docklands Subaru at Melbourne slapped them together and upped the tune.

I do believe the S402 was the ACTUAL STI version of the Legacy. ( Remember those monster 6pot brakes up front! )

Both have Bilsteins, the STI with STI specific springs ( Forgot to mention ). As for alloy control arms, might have to ask someone who has one, dunno about that one.

Yes on the suspension. I would assume the control arms were done, thouhg not exactly sure.

The main reason you would want the TbS over the Spec B is the brakes. Everything else is much easier to get. If you're not going to push it hard, then the TbS isn't really worth it on paper. Gen 4 GT brakes are more than adequate.

Unless you want the limited numbers item. Only a few hundred were done.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

Only problem i can see is people wanting stupid money for them. Here's a tidy one : http://www.carsales....3/?Cr=2&sdmvc=1

A quick look on carsales, your looking at $26 to $30k. You can get a SpecB GT for easily under $20k now, couldn't even sell my '07 for that much nearly 2 years ago. Quick check, SpecB's as low as $15k!

Assuming we're talking the facelift version, pre-facelift didn't get Brembos and got less fruit than the facelift.

+1. Unless I had the money to afford an STi.

Wanting to buy/looking for: single genuine STi rim, genuine STi front lip, Corazon or Zero/Sports grille and another OEM grille

Can you hook a brother up? Please contact me now. I have cash ready.

I reckon $25k for a TB is a decent buy.

Wheels and brakes alone are worth between $3-5k depending on condition and age.

So in all it's the same suspension set up bar the springs, same engine, same transmission and drive line, same exhaust system.
Although the interior is very nice on the sti. Not realy keen on the sti wheels though.

Reliably would be 10000000 times better

Service costs, same same might cost a bit more for brakes and what not.

Nothing compares to a B4 in reliability and power ;)

But seriously, eveything is more reliable than a B4

With SpecB's, there was a recall on them for the turbo oil feed line being faulty. Check this has been done. That's about the only thing i can think of, apart from that, they're pretty bullet proof so long as they are looked after well.

As for B4's, with any TT, as long as it's been looked after it will serve you well. With a TT you need to be able to make time for the system and know you TT shiz. If something goes wrong it's an epic mission trying to resolve it. For hassle free motoring, go with a SpecB, they're cheap enough at the moment.

They do have STi control arms, lateral links abd what not. Red stitching, STI embroided onto the front seats. My bro has one thats currently up for sale. It has the rare TCP Auto TBE and pins you back nicely when in sports sharp mode.
