Contract says you may be needed to work additional hours, days, weekends and public holidays to meet deadlines...

So if business demands stupidly tight deadlines, they have to be met by working weekends...

But seriously... even if I do the core work hours, and a little more by coming in early, they still aren't happy and complain... not worth it for an extra $10 a day I think... and possible lead role? Haha... their lead doesn't even want to be here, he'd been in the company 7 years, but everytime he's wanted to leave, it was the GFC or an employment low or something...

Make the call to fair work ombudsman just to see what they say, you don't have to dob the company in or anything but at least you'll know your rights.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Might just do that at lunch time...

Can't believe the nerve of management though, set unrealistic deadlines and expect everyone to work weekends... nope... not going to happen... some many guys here have been joking that they work 60-80 hours last week... and no, they don't get paid more for it, and there is no chance they will get a week of time in lieu for each 80 hour week they worked... coz then nobody would be here for the next project... so pretty much working extra for nothing...

80 hours a week is nothing to be proud of... Unless you're working two jobs and on 150k+

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

They are bragging, but I'm sure they feel like crap, working the extra 40 hours a week, at 1 job, for no extra pay...

But seriously, the extra $5k I get from this job works out to $50 a week after tax... so $10 a day, and if they want me to work an extra hour a day even, for $10, they can go fork themselves...

Our contract says 40 hour week + reasonable additional hours.

They have a policy to define what that means though. 5-10 hours extra a week is expected WHEN REQUIRED, and that can't exceed more than 9 hours in one day (8 hour work day + 1 hour reasonable additional hour) before being able to claim overtime rates.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

At least you have overtime rates.. we got none here.. we work the extra hours "from the goodness of our hearts"... haha

I have a family to go home to and a daughter I want to spend some time with before she goes to bed... doesn't look like that will happen here

I used to do a lot of overtime on salary and not get paid for it. The boss would give some time in lieu every now and then but never enough to cover the hours I worked.

He was working extra hours so expected everyone else to as well. He owned the company though.

So you can't get your old one back then?

Don't know Haz... told a guy at my old work to check if there is a chance... but they looking for a dev tester now, rather than just a tester, which is what I am... but he'll confirm anyway... thing is, I know the product there as well, which is a bonus for them, no need to retrain, but still... they might not want me back when they can hire 2 juniors for what they used to pay me... LOL!
