I do agree, it isn't as though you were setting out to cause anguish for the poor dog, as you said you were feeling sick in the gut over having to do it, but at the end of the day you didn't have a choice!!
At the end of the day you have done the best you could with the situation in trying to re-home the dog, the haters should just fark right off.

Yeah in the end the rescue was the best place for him. We had a few people who said they would take him. We offered him up for free to a good home. With the condition we got to inspect where he was going first. After we told them that we had all but two pull out. And one didn't even have a fenced yard and the other had a grassed area half the size of a single garage. And the rescue looks after and does background checks and house visits to whoever ends up taking him from them.

@Jash: I did the mushrooms as always; shrooms/spring onion/ butter/ cream/ grain mustard & thyme// - But I thought this time for a bit more 'effort', I'd blend it all with a stick blender, then season. It turned out so much lighter in texture than just pouring the mix straight from the pan over the steak.
With the potato gratin, I finally bothered to do the weigh down trick, which I will forever do again. FOREVER! Made it so much easier and 'fancy' to actually eat.
Bearnaise sauce was.... store bought.
Sue me.

I know, but just quietly, Maille brand sauces are fuckin' amazing. Their Dijonnaise is better than when I make it from scratch! It's about $4.50 a jar... but I'm not heavy on using it so it doesn't bother me.
