I wouldn't have it any other way :)

I would rather do it myself, plus it's handy to have a hoist and a but load of tools available, makes life simple.

That would probably be a small help yes

I never knew those steering rack adapters existed.

Were there any other issues with using a GDB rack on your car? Connecting the rack to any other parts that didn't work - or is it just to the steering column where there's a difference?

My understanding is that the major difference is the pitch of the splines on the steering column.

And because the wheel track is different of the gd's because of the alloy arms you either have to wind in the tie rods or replace with the gen 2 bits (not sure if this works)

Might have to tweek the power steering lines a little bit also.

I haven't installed it yet, the plan is next week. I'll let you know how it goes. :)

Im guessing some of that could be avoided by using a gc8 quick rack?

Yeah but a gc rack is a 2.7 turn

Mines a 2.1 or 2.2

Gc rack is directly compatible with a gen 2

Don't sneeze while you are driving. You might steer off the road.

Not entirely correct about the gc racks

GC8 "rack" is 2.7 turns...but a GC8 "quickrack" on the RA's etc is about 2.2 ;) i had one in my gen3

People get into this pattern of calling a 2.7 rack a quickrack when it really isnt

But GD ones should theoretically be fresher with seals etc, not that it will bother you but sometimes the tie rods on the spec c ones are a touch different

Yeah can't wait till the rx bits are on.

I bet it's going to be expensive for painting though, ah well hopefully before HVC. :)

I has the same wheels as yours but silver nearly ready to go on :)

I uh did what nick did to his inverted strut, to many strengths and broke the shaft. Adrian fixed it right up for me :)

Cheers for the info, I bet the ra ones are expensive though.

Yeah I'm either going to wind the ones on the new rack in (if they are the same as mine). Or try and fit the gen 2 stuff to the new rack, just see how it goes at the time I suppose.

Should have enough to wind the tie rods in id say...im sure the internall hole will be deep enough...if it stalls on the end of the threads though you could always "grind" a touch off the tie rod end ;)

And yep they generall go from $3-600....mine was $300 and i was on a waiting list 30 people long lol

the 2.7 in the RS is plenty enough, but if i find a proper quickrack again im jumping at it

Yeah I picked mine up for $250 I think, or 300 can't really remember. Considering what I have seen some go for, I think I did alright.
