Guys i have 3 options for mufflers for my 1999 Subaru Legacy B4 TT

As i live and work here in Aus i still like to have a car back home in NZ (for snowboarding/family trips) and have just bought a pretty rough legacy not long ago. Im in the process of buying parts ready for when i return home and tidying it up. As its not my everyday car im not going to all lengths to spend money on it but i am trying to get it close enough to my old Legacy i used to have and sold before moving over the ditch. Regret this A LOT =(

Anyway here are the options. I choose these as they will bolt straight on and are pretty cheap.

Sorry the links didnt work. let me try again

http://www.subaruspe...-98-03-sedan--4

http://www.subaruspe...-98-03-sedan--2

http://www.subaruspe...acy-98-03-sedan

120mm at tip, 74mm on pipes, and has a 60mm inlet OPTION 1

Measures 115mm at tip, 51mm on pipe, and has a 46mm inlet (Shocking weld) OPTION 2

Measured 104mm at tip, 79mm on pipe, and a 50mm intake OPTION 3

My current muffler on the car is ok but it restricts the subaru sound and is to quiet for my liking. Out of the 3 options above which one would produce the crisper louder note?

Im guessing that option 1 and 2 are going to be very similar but looking at pictures option 3 looks to be a lot more open on the inside.

yes yes i know that changing the full exhaust/extractors is going to give a better note but their pretty hard to come across now and this is a start

What's the internal construction of each muffler?

A straight through is the way to go if you want some noise.

Theyre all pretty crap imho. Go an oval muffler and get a JDM made one.

You can get a Fujitsubo, Mines muffler, etc from Yahoo Japan for a fraction more. Whats shipping from NZ cost?

Yeah the shipping for the mufflers from the links above would be $75

The guy also has this one which is the oval muffler type http://www.subaruspe...acy-98-03-sedan

The subaru i have has an oval muffler with a 3.5-4inch tip but its quiet (can only hear it if your standing in front of have)

Would i be better going with the STI Genome over the Fujitsubo?

I will have a look on yahoo and IM and see if i can get a quote for shipping to NZ

I think the internals matter more than inlets/outlets/blah.

Get something about 2.5" or more (90mm). Straight-through. Those pipes mostly look too small.

I've got a generic mild steel straight-through sports oval muff and I reckon it sounds awesome. Possibly too loud if anything (ie: great for your holiday car) broom broom

Sounds like you allreay have a Jap-Spec muffler . Standing at the back of the muffler can you see a outside seam ? on where the muffler goes together ?  Has it got Jasma stamped on it anywhere ? Sounds like you

have a either a Fujitsubo/Legalis/Tanabe on it allready. Buy one of the cannon style if you want noise. Post a pic of the muffler you have on it now if you can .

Yeah i wont be able to talke a picture until i fly over next Thursday. Ill be sure to bump up this topic and post some close up pictures and have a good look for a stamp. Has no silencer in it either

Whichever option you posted up with a Jasma stamp will probably not be that loud. It's a japanese certification meaning the exhaust is road legal (under 96dB? Not sure what the threshold is in japan.)

Guys i have come across this one which will only cost $40 for shipping. Its in pretty rough shape but will the Wagon muffler need much modding to fit a sedan or is longer as well as different mounting

Tip is longer for wagons so will sit past the bar on a sedan. Mounting points are the same.

$120 for a damaged s/h muffler is ridiculous.

Cheers CRUISN. I might just go with this Corazon one and see what it sounds like. Can always flick it off again if its to quiet.

Has anybody ever heard one before? Or know what it will sound like. Just a bit of a hassle buying off IM and trying to get it back to NZ

I have a fujitsubo, pretty quiet on idle and the primary, once it reaches the secondary it's louder but definitely not a super loud muffler. A stock golf R has a louder idle haha

Haha its so difficult trying to find one for older cars. The last 2 subarus I have owned already had the exhaust etc done so I never had to do a thing nor even bother to see what brand they were. I drive a e3 Maloo over here and it's so easy to get parts and know what their going to do/sound like. Bonus of living in the country where the car was made I suppose

Has anybody here tried fitting a GD,GG STi Genome muffler to a BE sedan?

Or has had experience with fitting a BH muffler. Im aware of the hangers being the same and the Tip being longer.

Having no luck finding one on Yahoo Auctions over the past month
