In Topic: Any ideas on drive/steering problem?

Thanks for your time and thoughts.

Whilst I haven't got out there in the rain and checked, the suggestion by Car nerd strikes me as the most probable, based on the fact that the problem sounded like a serious mechanical failure (bearing or cv joint) but was corrected in a few minutes with no further problem.

Thanks again.

Moosa - thanks, I have a service manual for the car.

Evil_VZ-T - I would have seen that. I had a really good look at the basics before calling for the mechanic. That's why I'm so annoyed/embarassed that I didn't suss what the problem was!

My diagnosis, based on the rough feel when turning the wheel, was that a wheel bearing had broken up, the mechanic agreed, then I went away for about 5 mins and the problem was fixed!

Thanks. There can be a bit of a language problem here, "pin" could mean anything. even be referring to the tie rod?

And the problem was quickly solved/adjusted and no apparent fault remaining.

I wondered if the tie rod adjustment could have loosened and the wheels became like :- l --------- / , but would that cause the right wheel to nearly stop turning?
