Help/advice needed 99 impreza rx wargon

18 February 2018 - 09:56 PM

Hey guys i need some help I've got a 99 impreza wagon sometimes has trouble starting (as in takes a few goes/cranks of the key) usally happening after the car has been sitting awhile overnight or all day. Once it starts it usually runs fine on idle sometime it may drop and need a few revs but will then sit fine. .but then put her in gear and drive. You get abrupt jerks. (Not sure but almost like its staving in petrol) revs drop i usually clutch it give a few revs release clutch and on my way till it happens again. .weird thing is usually after this happens a few times it'll run good for the rest of the trip. I thought it may just be one its cold but that's not the case i can leave the car to idle till it gets warm (have left it an hour before whole time sounding fine) get in goes fine get around the corner (jerk jerk runs well jerk jerk runs well untill it gets over it and it just runs fine till its left to sit again the next day after sitting all night) when its being used everyday it seems to get over it quicker like will only have two or 3 jerking spits before carrying out fine till its left again for hours. . .any ideas on what may be the issue??? Is it possible carbon build up is cursing this? Funny thing is i also own a 00rx wagon and have the same issue . Lent one to a mate he claims it drove fine the whole time he had it (week or two) any help woukd be great thanks

Rx N/A 2.0 rebirth

29 August 2017 - 01:02 PM

Going to start putting some work in the rx. thought i would put it in here just for a reference later down the track. . .
Car model/year:2000 2liter/ej201 rx impreza wagon
Details on the car: paid $1000 for her a few weeks ago with 7 months rego. Car is pretty straight with only minor dints apart from a crack in front bar. But has alot of work to be done. As its covered in dodgey home jobs to list a few. Headlights and taillights have been painted in black and white-out (yeah the shit you used to erase pen back in school) rims painted in a non-heat paint (black) and most likely not prep'd before painting (so obviously flaking). Patches of silver pressure pack spray. On guards/bumpers/inside engine bay. The roof of the wagon has been sprayed black once again without the required prep so up close looks horrible and sure it'll start to flake/crack soon. Home job window tint rough as guts when up close but even funnier i shit you not these young fellas run out of tint and decided to use their left over roof and wheel black paint to paint the patches of the window where they had no tint fully sick ( ooo to be young and dumb). Of course no young fellas car would be complete without spraying the air vents and other plastics inside the car. In this case they went yellow 😁 once again looks to be no prep involved as a quick close up look reveals they have painted right over dust. Runs all thorough it and silicon everywhere. Put some fake little diamonds/stones around the mirror control must have been his misses input. And theres other little things that you expect when buying a car like this from young blokes like the painted wipers and stuff but thats basically all the main stuff I've covered.
reason for buying: seen it there getting mistreated and thought it would be good to pick it up. And fix it up with the younger brother to teach him abit about cars. Unfortunately i probably should have chosen something i was use to. As i had no idea an engine swap would be so much bloody drama due to the ecu. .but none the less we have it now. And being the 1st 4 cylinder I've worked on should be some fun

Coilovers

Righto guys just been doing some late night shopping online . Picked up a few things to get this rx running smoothly again. New Lines to fix a leak (thought i would do all them at once) new filters as the fuel filter is playing up oil filter, air filter, fuel filter. .few bits and bobs for the inside as its abit rough atm . .but during this costly experience its got me thinking coil overs so finally the question . . Pro's and con's mainly if theres any cons. .but my main issue is how hard are they to setup right? And sway bars worth it at the same time? Its only a 2lt impreza 2000 rx wagon so not no power monster . .thanks any help would be great also any other mods you could recommend obviously its only NA so not much can be done power wise atm still deciding on if I'm going to supercharge it (and take the lose off power steering or go a different route or just straight up leave the power alone but not really after a ricer with no balls)

Impreza rx 2000 model wagon bumpers vs sedan

21 August 2017 - 07:12 AM

Hey wondering what the go with bumper fitment off a sedan is like onto a 2000 rx wagon (not bug eye) . What fits what doesn't I'm talking side skirts, rear and front bumper. .because looking at the bars on the sedan model and the wagon for this year. .they all look the same i know some wagon rear bars tend to be different due to shape giving it a cut out look with the rear hatch (boot) but the rx is just flat along the top like a sedan. Anyone got any experience here? 🤔 thanks
