I've been in retail for five years. Banking is a form of retail, but it is one that I would be happy doing. Going back to selling sports apparel and footwear would be a nightmare. I guess it would just depend on what company. There was no career progression in the retail job I used to have because it was a smaller company owned by two blokes. You wouldn't be able to go beyond store manager until someone in the hierarchy died. Seriously.

 

I've applied for NAB (I gave Shaz a heads up) and Commonwealth Bank (with another of my mates helping out too).

Oh right. Never thought about it to be honest. I wouldn't want to make a career out of that though. I can talk the walls down but I doubt I would be satisfied with where I was at and what I was doing.

 

Thanks man. I should hear back from the past few weeks of applications within the next two weeks. Most positions have starting dates of February to April and one in March. My current job in council is guaranteed until March after which they have no clue where they will be. I can't wait for a "may be".

So, you're currently getting annoyed from sending job applications because you the council has guaranteed you a job until March, yet, for all you know they could keep you on.

 

Hey, here's an idea, how about, tomorrow when you go to work, why not ask them what the chances of them keeping you on are.

 

Who knows, you could be doing a lot of this and stressing out over nothing.

 

Be thankful you currently have a job mate, and just chill the fuck out for 5 minutes.

You're silly if you think I haven't asked them what's going on. Obviously the feedback hasn't been good enough which is why I'm applying for jobs. I'm not waiting until they say "Oh shit, we have nothing left for you" before applying.

 

Council is getting six more trainees. The position I have is a position that is part of the trainee rotation, therefore my job would be redundant unless they have something more permanent and official done before March. But as you know with government, everything takes ages before it's on paper.

Don't take it the wrong way. I'm in a situation where I've not got too much breathing space, that's all.

I've been applying, however in the same boat, a lot of jobs don't come up until Feb/March, so i'm not getting worried that they haven't contacted me.

 

Will see what happens. Something will appear.

It usually takes a week or two after the advertised position has closed. I've only been notified straight away when it's a government job.

 

The more you apply the better your chance.
