I want to tint my brake lights to the same extent as shown. Is that illegal?

You're better off buying replacement lights that meet the Australian Standard as opposed to modifying it yourself. There are way too many occasions where people are pulled over and fined for it.

Wanting to buy/looking for: single genuine STi rim, genuine STi front lip, Corazon or Zero/Sports grille and another OEM grille

Can you hook a brother up? Please contact me now. I have cash ready.

I think it really depends on how it's done. Kelly hasn't had any problems with the below lights, however they are LED so they are bright and you can easily see them through the paint. This was clear coat with some tint / black through it sprayed over the lights. Not dodgy night shades.

I have seen other tint jobs and some are way too dark and prevent most of the light getting through. Not a great idea.

It does look good. But question was about legalities ;) It is defectable.

Yeah, whoops forgot. It is a defect absolutely.. You may get lucky if there enough light getting through, but you may not at all. If you are going to do it, might be advisable to carry a spare set of lights with you in the car at all times.

I would also recommend having your headlights/tails on during the day so there's atleast a bit of light coming through them.

All my cars have had some extent of tinting and I've never had problems with the police, although a mate was pulled over in my VZ wagon because the tail lights were "a little dark but ok" and because the rear Holden badge was removed and he was driving slow through a school zone "looking suspicious" but the cop was just being a wanker as I'm told.
