SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - MELBOURNE AREA
for DAMAGING WIND, FLASH FLOODING and LARGE HAILSTONES
For people in the Inner, Eastern, Northern and parts of the Western and Outer East Local Warning Areas.
Issued at 2:02 pm Thursday, 2 December 2010.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours.
Locations which may be affected
include Caulfield, Craigieburn, Footscray, Glen Waverley, Greensborough, Melbourne City, Melton, Preston, Ringwood, St Albans and Sunbury.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* secure any loose objects in the vicinity of your home.
* keep away from creeks and drains.
* do not drive vehicles through flooded areas.
* stay indoors if possible.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* if you are outside, avoid sheltering under trees
* listen to the radio for storm updates
* switch off your computer and electrical appliances
The next warning is due to be issued by 3:00 pm.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Central, South West, Northern Country, North Central, North East, Wimmera and parts of the East Gippsland, Mallee and West and South Gippsland districts.

I missed the entire storm, was inside at work, barely knew that there was a storm until we had a blackout for a few seconds.
Car sits in underground carpark so it didn't get a bath.

Its lucky the underground carpark didn't fill up with water. Then it would have had a bath!

I don't get why these organisations want to continuously put events into shitty third world countries... I wouldn't be going to some poor ass country to watch sport.
I can understand that they want to give these poor nations a chance to host something good but it just keeps on ending in tears - not to mention the security risk that it presents.
