Shaz, do you test your pop up sheilds?
they are loud as and so quick... except when a hose pops off and they fall back down... haha i used to work around that stuff... one guy had his arm broken when it went off.. idiot was reaching over when we were putting it up, lets just say elbows arent meant to bend both ways.
Yeah we have a massive fsckoff walk in safe. Its always locked open when its open so you can't accidently get locked in. But yeah, would be a hell boring night.
We don't have the pop up shields at our branch. We have one of the new style ones with the floor-mount safes, so its completley open plan. But, when i worked at the Dee Why branch when i first started, they have the pop up shields, and i was sitting next to one before i knew they had to be tested. Someone yelled "CLEAR" and i was like "Wtf?" next thing i know there is a half a tonne metal wall flying towards the ceiling and what sounded to me like a massive artillery cannon going off in my ear. Those things are scary as shit.
One of the old timers who has been at the bank for like 80 years was telling me ages ago one of the branches got held up, and the dude put a baby on the screen, and said to the teller "Lets see you activate the shields now" (Star Wars, Hoth styles) and she couldn't do it as it would have smashed the baby into the roof. He ended up getting away with a fair bit of cashish.
Pretty hectic stuff. Apparently those shields have the hydraulic force equivalent to like 5 tonnes of pressure or something. I can imagine that dudes elbow got all kinds of messed up if it got caught in it.
Cheers,
Shazza
