Pretty much any mechanic nowdays can clear the service indicator on them if they have the correct scan tool, as I said you really do not have to stick with a dealer for repairs.i was told they are pricey on parts and u have to get the computer reset by bmw , i was going to buy one too ..

One thing to know about private sellers Morgan - they almost religiously over-price their cars, everyone thinks their car is worth a million dollars.
Also, thankyou Morg-anus. I will keep all up to date. She doesn't really want a hatchback because we are concerned for safety - how are they on safety, and how are they on repairs? Do they need to be serviced by BMW?

Sometimes. I find that around here dealers overprice cars. Out of the 50 odd cars that the Ayling family has had in the last 30 years, 5 of them have been from dealers.
2x brand new (1 being the Mini)
1x loan car (used by people getting their own car serviced)
2x used cars (crap - they've both been mine!! Barina & Outback)
I find you get what you see with private cars. Dealers sprouse them up to make them look better then they are.
Foruntely the ones we have bought from dealers have been awesome

Yup, best thing about private sellers is that you can bargain them down
I got my Outback down from $14,750 to $12,000 which I was pretty happy about. And that was the Subaru dealer in Orange
The guy I bought my Lib off advertised it for $8,900 and I bought it for $8,900...damn!!
I did contact him about half an hr after he put up the ad though

and that there's a slight chance the previous owner could be a very attractive female.
I got my B4 down from 18,000 to 18,000 because he had a loan on it and needed to money to clear it. lol

Not risky if you're smart.Risky...
And wow. Good deal

LOL, not many people pay the asking price for cars! its funny looking at data showing asking prices Vs prices paid on this stuff!
Not risky if you're smart.
We went to the bank with him and made sure that loan was cleared with the cash handover and had it in writing.
