This last week, I've been chasing gremlins in my car. Fuel pump fixed. Radiator fixed (easy fix). Dodgey smell fix (dead bird removal).

I've removed the turbo, and fixed some loose bolts that have been plaguing dramas, and costing me precious boosts.

I took the day off from work today, because every day, I'd work on the car for a couple of hours, and then rush off to work. I found it frustrating, as when some other development came up, I had to wait until the following day to find a resolution.

I managed to buy the correct bolts from my local Speedflow shop (Motorsport Connections), about fifteen minutes away.

Posted Image
First Fail: Subaru water banjo fitting bolt on the left, Garrett water banjo fitting bolt in the middle (blackz0rs) and the original on the right.

So bolts went in... But the coolant return line kept weeping. New bolt. New crush washers.

Then I discovered this:

The banjo fitting had a hairline crack in it.

So I went back to Motorsport Connections... and bought some fittings and fresh hose (flameproof, because its near the turbo exhaust housing (anodised black... no less.) One thing I liked was the fact that the fitting had a push lock fitting. No hose clamps. Win.

and now its fitted.

No more tears. No more leaks.

Probably an over-engineered, over-priced fix (I can hear the penny pinching haterz now), but it works, and looks good.

And this could be the start of a Speedflow fetish?

Looks good Alex.

Does the new bolt allow enough coolant flow? Holes look smaller.

The dodgy one looks as if it was overtightened, seems twisted.

Tip: I always put a bit of copper grease (Wurth CU800 or Copper Eze) on bolt threads that are exposed to coolant, to prevent them seizing.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

afternoon guys , boy do i have an eventful story to tell.. involves crappy parts used on my new bike .. all in all the bike is well built but they skimped on the safety washers that hold the front wheel on , they were light weight alloy that you could snap in ur hand.. pretty much this moring one gave way and my front wheel started to come off , luck i can hold my bike and hop on one foot and the same time haha didnt want to have a gravel sandwich for breakfast !!

then i walked home with my bike on my shoulder , used washers from the circa 1983 malvern star bike i had they were built to last :P and fitted them and rode to work then it started to piss down in rain , happy days

How much for the fix Big Al?

That banjo thingy and the bolt look excellent quality and the best thing is that they are BLACKKKKKKK.

I'm guessing a couple of pineapples?
