Where i come from we can drive turbots on our L's

Technically so can we (if it's the family car/ only car have access to)...

Anyone can drive any car on their L's as there is always a 'responsible' driver in the car.
I took my P's test in a supercharged Mini. I couldve driven the commodore or the 80 series.
That was the last time I drove it [on a public road].
I get my blacks in 6months though and then it will be fun happy fun supercharged times!

Car buff turns to Fullerton craftsmen to build a one-of-a-kind convertible.

FULLERTON – Neighbors living near La Mesa Drive didn't know what to expect when Bob Rasmussen sent out invitations to a front-lawn car show.

Last weekend, their curiosity turned to amazement when entrepreneur Dick Stratling opened the trunk and engine compartment to his one-of-a-kind topless sports car.

He pointed out the sleek red convertible took 15-plus years in fabrication to build from an idea and a passion for "timeless beauty."

All the work from chassis to running gear was done in Fullerton at Rightmeyer Restorations on State College Boulevard.

As visitors circled Stratling's dream car, he explained everything was handmade.

"You don't go to an auto parts store to build this car," said Stratling, 65, an executive in a plastic injection molding firm in Northern California. "The windshield is one-of-a-kind. The body is aluminum, the parts are steel."

Tom Rightmyer, who works alongside his son, Brian, in the restoration business, started working on the sporty vehicle after Stratling came to him nearly 20 years ago with a design derived from a love for vintage sports cars.

"The challenge was really figuring out all the handmade pieces," said Rightmyer, pointing to the undercarriage sitting 5 inches above the lawn. "It goes over speed bumps just fine."

Stratling drove his car from his home in Orinda to Fullerton on premium gas in a 600 horsepower engine.

"It's legal, registered and I gave it a name, Corsa Spyder," Stratling said. "Corsa means race in Italian, and Spyder refers to an open car without a top."

A native of San Francisco, Stratling built his first car at age 13 with a lawnmower engine, wood for the body and angle iron for the frame.

"I had to be careful to dodge the police when I drove it up and down hills in the neighborhood," he recalled.

Nowadays, his automotive talents are limited to private showings. He said the Corsa Spyder can't be entered in classic car competitions because of its one-of-a-kind status.

"I guess all of this is just the little boy in me," Stratling said. "I don't mind getting old, I just don't want to get mature."
