Interesting you say that J. I'm running T1R's at the moment, and they've lasted quite a while (40K kms, and still not at the indicator mark!), and served me well in terms of grip. But within 12 months, I'll be up for a replacement. I've got HTRZs on the Celica, but I don't think they're much of a match. 4AGE with twin dellortos, 900kg or so curb weight, and 17" wheels. The Celica just chars them! I was wondering what they'd be like on the Sooby, but if they're like that on the Celica, I'm not hugely impressed. Having said that, last week, I was at the local Big Muffler shop here in Sydney, and was chatting with a few guys who were getting some work done. One guy noted that I had T1R's, and he also had them on his Skyline. He asked me how I liked them, and showed them to him in terms of wear. He said he's just bought his, and was absolutely stunned with the traction these tyres offer! We were also chatting about the R1R's (Toyo's semi slick tyre) as I was thinking about upgrading to those next. He said to avoid them like the plague. As a track tyre, they're good comparatively, but as a road tyre, when cold, offer almost no traction whatsoever.

I agree Alex, the T1Rs are very good. I guess its just that I was very surprised with the HTRZs (far more in the wet), considering the price. The weight of the car, size of the tyre (commo has 235/45-17) and the natural handling of the particular car are all contributing to the overall level of grip. I guess the only way to be sure would be to try some HTRZs on the Subi, or vice versa. I certainly wouldn't expect the HTRZs to perform as well on the Subi, but if price is a consideration for a daily type of car, then surely they are worth considering. The T1Rs are standing up very well in terms of wear but I would think that the commo will chew through the HTRZs at a far greater rate. Perhaps the Celica is a bit light for a large tyre? As far as the commo is concerned, it feels like it forces the tyre into road to grip where as the Subi tends to 'sit on' its tyres. Difficult to explain, just how it feels. AWD perhaps? Do you have HTRZIIs or HTRZIIIs on the Celica? Looking at the HTRZIIIs, I think the IIs would be a much better tyre. Cheers Jason

I feel the same about the Celica... that it doesn't have enough weight for the tyres, where on a Commodore, it'll force it to sit on the tyres (I know what you mean!) The Celica feels like it floats on them! I do plan on changing the wheels. 17" on a '74 feels ridiculous, and looks ridiculous. At the moment, I'm cashed out, but when time and money do meet again, I'll be looking at a bare minimum the stockers, whitewalls and hubcaps for historical value, or a set of nice 15" watanabes or replicas. 15's would be the biggest I'd go on the little Celica. They are indeed HTRZIII's. You're not the first person to mention that either. I have heard others mention the III's were not as good as the II's. I'm not terribly fussed on the tyres on the Celica. As long as they're half decent I guess. But if I can find a more cost effective solution to the T1R's.... it'll be hard. They're a very very impressive tyre.

I thought that aswell... but... having replaced Japanese made adrenalins with Aussie made ones - I honestly can't tell a difference... and trust me they've been put thr their paces more than once ;)

don't skimp out on tyres either.

or i'll come down and shank your linglongs or nankangs.

I can't stand it when people spend money on good cars, only to pike out and buy chatty tyres!

Amen to that!!

Dont worry Alex, good tyres are a must have, i currently have RE050's so ill be replacing them with the equivilent or better :)

Good boy!! As I've told you before get the Adrenalins (and put the money you save towards fixing your dent)

From memory its a dark green TA22....yes???
Im not a huge fan of whitewalls (unless on a rod) but could look quite sexy with dark green. Perhaps you could combine stock with stealth?
I have a Torana with the std 13" wheels and good tyres are now impossible to get (205/65-13 RE92 :dash2: only one available in that size) but i want to keep the std hubcaps. I am toying with the idea of getting some 14" steel rims and adapting the rim to accept the 13" hubcap. I would be left with a 1/2" gap all the way around but I've got to get rid of those RE92s!!!
I think an old Celica would look great with slightly larger rims 'n rubber wearing the original hubcaps.

Tidy looking unit Alex. Nice colour/ trim combo. Always had a bit of a soft spot for them. Minilites on a 1970s classic...............yeah baby! I think those rims would look good with redwalls, in keeping with the early 70s theme. The whitewalls look good also.

Sweeeeet......although if you posted 3 images I can only see the last two??? Very much a fan of old meeting new, best of both worlds IMO, but now Im trapped in the world of 'factory original'. Not a bad place to be though. Are they *cough splutter* Monroe shockers I see? Those tyres are HTRZII, same as mine!

Getting paid monthly sucks balls, should i get new tyres next pay day or fix my dent?

Go with the tyres first that one looks like it could let go anytime, and then you might and up with a lot more than one dent....Posted Image

I've heard both, watanabe is the more common I've heard off the 'yoda crew. You're more than likely right mate, either way. Get them Arex. Would you rather wear an unironed shirt, or no shoes?
