How do you know the story about the ABS isnt true? You only have the calipers and rotors, not everything else from the B4 like the brake booster and B4 Abs unit etc (im not 100% sure that there different though)

Heya boys i'll add my 2 cents here..

The B4's ABS was the WORST thing ever!! if you were lightly braking, and managed to run over the smallest pebble on the road or even a coke bottle lid, it would set the ABS system off straight away.

I almost rear ended about 40 cars in 2 years cause of the setup.

Interesting. Any ideas as to why they are like this???? Im wondering if its a suspension thing?

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Thanks Chris. Keen to do the upgrade when its time for new brakes. I think they're not bad now but haven't had the chance to really push them. Apart from extra bite, does it do anything for fade resistance?

There is less fade. Not sure if it's due to the types of rotors I chose, the larger diameter of the rotors, larger pads. What ever the reason, it works. Compared to OEM on the RX, this setup is far better. Not sure why it wasn't done as standard really.

At a guess I'd say that the ABS sensors are more sensative on the B4 to "assist" in pulling up the extra speedz without skidz.

I must admit, I used to have the ABS kicking in pretty frequently with my old setup and it gave me the shits. Doesn't happen so much anymore with the change over of brakes and addition of Billies.

shit abs system is the answer, all my mates that have owned Rex and Rex sti's have all complained about the same thing, it's another one of those Subaru quirks, like a 2nd that's as strong as a stale bread stick..

+ 1 for under seat amp install.. use seat bolt as ground point and run rca's and remote wire through centre console, i plan on making a custom bracket to secure the amp better though.. also be weary that the climate control almost always pumps hot air to the feet and as such your amp will be getting warm under there so make sure you get something with good cooling capabilities!

Also front tweets are good! i would stick with the stockies tbh, too much fugging around to get some to fit in there.

The parcel shelf of the gen2 is a bit too open in that the speakers dont get good bass, the gen1 has a semi enclosed speaker hole but not so good in gen2.. i spent 4x as much on the speakers for my gen2 as i did on the gen1 and still the gen1 gives you the deep gut bass but gen2 just doesnt kick it :( but i wouldnt put boxes on the rear.. the rear window is a bit small and i think you will find your rear too cluttered.. (maybe its possible to enclose the bottom of the speaker holes)?

Alright, So that's head-unit, Amp under seat (it's got a big heatsink) and just going some 6's in the parcel shelf to keep the stock look.

Only issue now is the splits and tweeter problem, I will ask the install bloke about that stuff.

Thanks for the wiring tips!

I guess i will take the door trim off to have a look, The stock tweeters sound alright.

The ABS kicks in fairly late (imo) on the GX - enough to leave a few marks on the road. Thankfully I have only had to test this a few times (retards pulling out from drive ways while not looking). This was with both OEM and DBA/bendix. The only difference I noticed between the two was I slowed down faster. Still get fade :/ (when really pushing it.. I mean driving normally and sedately, officer) The RS on the other hand kicks in really early (imo) and then just gives up. ABS to no ABS = WTF is going on!!!! (or maybe there is a fault)

Stuff goes here

My old man had a similar thing happen a few weeks back in his Foz.

Interesting read B4 ABS explained on pg 17-18

They are exactly the same as the plastic ones i was talking about, don't think the plastic would hold up to well under the heat from the brakes.

You're probably right they would fool people if they were fitted properly... Right up to the point when after some serious heavy braking your car is standing in 4 puddles of red melted plastic..Posted Image

Maybe the air flow over them would stop them from melting, but i am a little sceptical, i melted a set of brake pads before..
