We get heaps of Irish workers through here. Had a couple from Claire (Sp?) through last year. Some of the hardest workers I've ever seen are from Ireland. Unfortunately our great leader has made working extensions almost impossible, and at the moment a working visa from Europe to Aus is rare as hens teeth.
I can't understand a lot of them though, the really thick accents are quite hard to pick up I find. I also think it is amazing that in a country the size of a watermelon, you can have so many dialects that one person can drive for 2 hours and be picked up on straight away for being an out of towner!
.... that's my understanding of it anyway?
As for picturing the clover chomping and green suit... no. Sorry. The photos that Eric sent me via email are enough to fill the imagination.
True there are a lot of accents as you drive through different counties and there are some that i have problems understanding. The Clare accent is not to bad but the Cork and Kerry ones can be tough to pick up.
