Just filled up using 91 for the first time in about 12 months in any car. Getting sick of paying between $70-90 for a tank EVERY WEEK. Cost me $55!!! Granted it wasnt as empty as it usually is but gotta drive to Syd this arvo. Cant remember the last time is cost me so little!

For the extra money you pay, you will get back in economy. Silly Morgs.

Also, unless you're rocking a long trip, do you really think the ultimate is taking you that much further?

I'm just waiting to hear what the insurance company are gonna do, dealer can have the GT serviced and registered in Ireland and on the road in 2 days once i tell him i want it. Then its time to strip all my aftermarket goodies off the B4 and swap them to the GT. So i could be back in the turbo world next week. Bloody hire car the insurance gave me is a 1.8 Ford Mondeo, would'nt pull you out of bed.

Got news from the insurance company finally today and the B4 is being written off as an uneconomical repair, waiting to find out how much they will sell it back to me for when they pay me. Unfortunately the GT E-tune wagon i was looking at has some issues and there are no other decent Legacys for sale at the moment over here, i need a new car fairly sharpish and went to look at an M5 bmw today, looks and goes sweet so gonna get my mechanic to check it over early next week. If the insurance company quote me a good price i know enough people to source the replacement parts very cheap so it might become a project car if the price is right, all of the damage apart from the a/c and main rads is cosmetic..

Yes, i filled up once with 95 on my long trip instead of 98 and it got me a good 70k's less.

Thats the thing. I dont think the extra $30/week is worth it.
If it was $10 or something then id fork out for it but it is getting ridiculous.

We'll see how economic she is now and if there is mucho power loss. Maybe a tank of 95/98 every now and again will clean her up but ill most likely be using 91 now!!

To be the devils advocate on the 98 = less economy debate. One of my mates at TAFE who has been a mechanic for 12 odd years has a Gen 3 Outback. He says that when he takes it on a road trip he'll fill it with 98 and consistently get 100-120 MORE km's to a tank. Around 50 km's more when he's towing the mini. He's no liar either, but yeah, he always seems to get better economy with 98 on the open road.

Previous: 97 Gen 2 Liberty wagon, 89 NA MX5, 88 Toyota Cresta. Current: 04 turbo MX5, 02 Foz GT.

THAT'S WHAT I SAID FFS! Only worth it if you're going to be hitting up a long trip. How the heck are you being devils advocate by agreeing with everyone? If you are putting around town, not getting out of second, it ain't worth it. Sorry. Having a shit day. Ignore me. :D

I wouldnt exactly call the Central Coast the open road. But it isnt Sydney either. I drive on the freeway every day to work and back and accumulate around 600km/week (fuel light comes on around 630km using 98). Would you suggest 91 to comtinue that sort of driving Nik and 98 for when i do serious driving?

As I've said before, Dad's been keeping fuel records in his Suby's for 10 yrs now... 10-15% worse (on average, so both long and short trips) using 91, no real diff between 95/98. :drinks:

I'm with Buzz on this one. I usually just go for 95. I use 91 when the prices are ridiculous. I used 91 on the B4 and on the GT Forester every now and then. Just make sure you drive sensibly and you're fine.
