Been looking at older Fozies (for a daily) for a couple weeks now found this one, the dealer seemed fairdinkim so we went up today to have a look.

Looked fairly good to start, then I noticed the petrol filler cap was pushed it bout 15mm <_< . Anyway everything else was intact, started no worries, noticed new hoses and leads had been put on.

Took it for a drive, the clutch felt new, was a little rough on acc., asked missus to check the books and there was nothing between 87000 and 175000. pulled over after bout 10 mins popped the bonnet and could smell old coolant... looked at the eng and under the manifold could see what looked like dreid out puddles, and the harmonic balancer was wobbling a bit :negative: . Drove it back, guy comes over.

Him: "So... how'd ya go?"
Me: "OK I spose, it goes alright but the log books have nothing between 87 and 175k, what's the story there?"
Him: *gets books out of g/box, has a look, shakes his head*
Me: "Do you know if it's had the 100k service done?"
Him: "well if it's not in there I can't say"
Me: "OK, well the ad said it had books"
Him: "It does, they're there"
Me: "C'mon mate, every car that gets sold has books. Without knowing the history and without the log books I'm not really sure if we want it cause subaru's need to be serviced regularly *pauses, by this time I'd pretty much made up my mind that we weren't taking it*
Him: "Well, it does have books. Look you obviously know a bit about Subaru's would it still be going if it hadn't had it done?"
Me: "Possibly"
Him: "So do you want it?"
Me: *points to Macca's across the road* What we might do is go have some lunch and have a talk and then decide"
Him:"yeah but do you think you'll take it?"
Me: "IF it's a yes or no answer right now, the answers no!"
Him: No, what I'm saying is do you think after lunch you'll still want it?
Me: Look mate, we don't know if we want it and if your gonna start pressuring us then the answers no, we don't need this car, I told you we wanted to have lunch before we make up our mind"
me: *turns to missus* "ok, lets go"
Him:"I'm not having a go at you I just want to know if you think you'll take it"
Me: "and I told you we don't know but you keep on pushing for an answer, so nup, we're not taking it. we don't need this car, there's plenty of them around and we sure as hell don't need your attitude so don't worry bout it. see ya!" *we start walking off*
Him:"yeah. ok. well I don't need you either!"

Lol, fuckin glad we didn't buy it.

I hate salesmen like that Buzz, you did well to walk away! That's a decent gap to have no service records.

Cheers guys, but yeah, nothing in the book from 04 till 09 and susposedly only 1 owner, possibly self serviced, but if it was I'd expect the dealer to know.

We could go blue in the face telling dodgy car salesman stories. I was told to effe off because I didn't tell the dealer how much I wanted to spend. I wanted a ballpark figure on my trade in before knowing what I COULD spend, this wasn't good enough, and was told to get effed. Nice work Bunbury Screwbaru!

How do they expect to sell anything with an attitude like that? Especially to someone who has clearly made known that they know about cars ...and Subys in particular!
Good job on walking away Buzzzman.

Before Kt bought the Excel, we were looking to downgrade her Civic (was in the market for a decent DSLR). Went to a local used car dealer and was wondering around

Dealer: Hi can I help you with anything
Me: Hi, just looking for a new car for the Mrs here
Dealer: Ah yes have you seen anything here you're interetsed in?
Me: We've only just got here. We're after something small; she only drives a few km to the station and back everyday and occasionally to the shops.
Dealer: Price range blah blah blah
Me: Nothing over $5k.
Dealer: Welllllll you're never going to fine anything worth your while anywhere for that price range. Automatic i assume?
Me: (Getting frustrated). No actually. She prefers manual. *turns to walk away
Dealer: Well how about this....
Me: *already walking away laughing

I made a point to hand her the keys to the kitted out manual 80 series parked in the car park. He watched her drive away. Booya

Sure we ended up getting an Excel. But it was a 95 model with 124k km on it at the time, clean as a whistle, freshly painted front and rear bars, used by a mum as a run about to school and back, 5sp, CD player etc. Cost $2300 or something...

And Nik, nice chromdrover
