Last season i was riding a ThirtyTwo 155 camber and a ThirtyTwo 158 rocker and even though i should probably be riding the 155 i always found myself going for the rocker. I guess on the shitty Australian report conditions that extra softness is just that much more rideable all day (not that it really makes a difference, especially the way i ride these days, but if i did have to make a comparison).
I'm an old man who tries to avoid any kind of challenging conditions or terrain if i can help it so whether i ride a 152 rocker hybrid or a 165 swallow i don't think it makes much difference to my riding haha.
If we're talking brands it really don't matter any more does it? Theres like 4 factories that make 95% of the boards out there, Burton (verticle), Mervin (Lib, Gnu, Quiksilver/Roxy, DC[now GST]), GST (ThirtyTwo, Flow, Forum, Arbor, Jones, Yes, Stepchild, Bataleon, Rome, Santa Cruz, Fanatic, Sapient, Northwave/Drake, Volcom, Gray, F2 etc) and SBF (Battalion, Lobster, Nomis, APO, TechNine etc). Capita have bought the old Elan factory and make their own boards and in time you'd imagine make boards for a bunch of other crew like Elan used to.
EVERYONE makes boards in China while some still make their top end stuff in Austria or the USA. They all use the same or similar machines with similar or same materials and the fact they're all basically coming from the same factories has completely changed the game compared to when i first started. Pretty much every brand was handmade in the USA in a small factory by the guys who designed them. I remember going to the Mervin factory in Seattle in 1993 and it was basically a storage unit with a press, various other power tools and a mini ramp manned by a three man team. The quality of your board was directly related to the amount of cones the guy cutting it had just smoked (which was past of the charm). Now all the factories use the same or similar machinery, manned by professional operators and they all churn out the same product of a similar standard. In my options buy the board with the prettiest picture or has your favorite team riders name on as in the end of the day they're all one in the same

Freaken hey, I've been waiting to read something like that for a while and I didn't even know I was [waiting].
I ride a Rome Crossrocket, 154. Interesting kit really; even considering what Aek has stated, it seems to be quite unique.... "No hang-ups edges", diamond shaped base, and a carbon rod running along the length in the centre of the board. Equals flexy but poppy also. Plus some other 'tech'.
