looking at alexxs?

Have you put any more thought into squeezing some more power out of the engine. Like strapping on one of those intake fans

You would be silly to buy a VY SS. I work with a guy who owns one, He's a mechanic and can't keep up with the things that keep breaking on it.

Keep it in the Subaru family!

Nah not alexxxs.

I just looked at a car that had a boost controller, it switches between 9 and 14psi.
Is there anything I should be looking at in particular? Everything was tight and it didn't ping. It didn't have any signs of leaks either?

well my01 have the gc8 gearbox which is easy to break. my02 has 4.44 gearbox which is alot better. my01 doesnt have avcs the my02 does. so you might as well just buy a gc8 and save some cash.

personally id convert your wagon

MY01's have the 3.9 gearbox which is poo, No AVCS, External aerial, No outside temp display, Double din radio, Pre-turbo cat which is also poo, Viscous LSD (Suretracs are better imo) and probably some other little things.

At least get a MY02.
Look for coolant leaks around the plastic fitting on the radiator that runs into small hose that runs to the header tank (Hidden by the intake that sits over the radiator)
Look for oil leaks around the bottom of the timing case and check if it's had it's t-belt and seals done at 100,000 (Look for marks on the timing case bolts to see if it's been taken apart)
Listen for power steering whine at a cold start.
Listen for piston slap when the engine is warm.
Check the oil cap for blow by when the engine is running and warm.
Listen for groans and whirs in the wheel bearings as these cars are getting a bit old now.
Make sure it's had it's fuel hose and cruise control recalls (MY01-MY02)
Check for smoke while car is on boost.
Listen for whines in all gears (some garra garra noise is ok), Most WRX's have had a hard life.

Ask plenty of questions, That's all I can think of for now.

Alex I would love to buy yours but I am not too keen on taking out a loan while still at Uni.
Is the gear box really that easy to break in a MY01? When I drove it didn't make any whining noises.
Call me strange but I actually like the bug eye shape.

You can always upgrade the gearbox, but like cambo said go an my02 atleast. Less hassle later on.

I hated the bug eye shape. Till i was in the market for a NA suby and bought my bug. The bugs got mad pumped gaurds. I think alot of people dislike the bug eye because most of the ones out there have stupid rims, them queer lancer tail lights, and need for speed underground spec body kits.

Don't forget, bugs can fly, pigs can't ;)
