Went to check out a Liberty on Monday and everything was immaculate but I did notice two things.
  • When the car is stationary and the steering wheel is hooked all the way to the left or all the way to the right, it makes a slight whiny noise. Is this the normal power steering sound I'd expect to hear in a Liberty? Something I am thinking about is that there might need a top up of power steering fluid?
  • When accelerating and hitting about the 40-50 km/h mark, there is a slight whine/rapid yet very subtle rattling sound coming from the rear of the car (I assume it is coming from the exhaust?)... When taking my foot off the accelerator the noise disappears. May be the exhaust is hitting something or may be the heat shield?
Other then this guys I am really impressed and am inching ever so much closer to getting it. I am taking a mate who's a mechanic with me tonight to have another look and if all checks out OK then I'll be a proud owner of an '06 SpecB Liberty.

Any tips, things to look for and answers to the questions above would be appreciated. I am posting it in this topic as well as the other one as I need rapid responses as I am checking it out at 7 PM tonight. Sorry if I break anyones hearts.

PS noise is fine. Mine has the same. It's not too healthy to hold the steering that position anyway so when you hear that noise, back off a little and you'll be fine.

Noise in the rear is odd though. Could be exhaust hitting on something, could be a dead strut? Is it a wagon or sedan? How many kms?

It's a sedan, auto and it's got 114,000 km.

It's only very subtle, but noticeable especially when you have three people in the car listening to every possible thing for defaults. We all hear it. The only thing I thought it to be is the exhaust, but you can't hear anything on the outside of the car (obviously when it's idling in park). Exhaust hitting on something is the ONLY possible thing I could think of.

Does that = Tirerack sells non ADR versions of Bridgies?

Well i want the RE-11's for mums xr6t, but they aren't available in Australia :( over a year ago i got some from tire rack and a few months after that matt got some aswell. They wouldn't have anything about ADR on them. Why bridgstone dont sell the re-11 in australia is beyond me, they are the best street tyre bridgestone makes.

Skip to about 45sec to see the death of 2 classics.

Sad.

That was the Bright Rod Run up in the Vic high country.

Super cool event, pity this happened but everyone is OK.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
