Gumtree's only real resort is the police. As long as you have all receipts, messages, emails, etc etc. They should be able to help, I guess.

Police are no help at all...It's a Civil matter, so courts etc. Not worth the effort.
I'm $1400 out of pocket on a Failed VW forum transaction...even that figure is hardly worth the process involved.

Full Set of Oettinger Race heads for my old 16v project...10k rpm limit...good for 200hp on a KR block...it would have screamed. It all went South from the Start...then he lost his job, then he re-sold my parts to refund my money...then he spent the money...now he is declaring bankruptcy (not over my debt, he has many more apparently) So yeah, $1400...goneski.

Ah that's pretty shit. I always go PayPal if it's more than $100-150.. Seen the horror stories first-hand, so I'm kinda paranoid about it

Gumtree is a joke.

I'm very cautious about Gumtree. This guy seemed very genuine to start with. Hopefully we can resolve it this week... The bank can always send a request to get the money back but my folks are OS until later this month so nothing will happen for a while...

I bought the Calais through Gumtree though. That was a good deal.

Dad gave away all Nana and Pa's furniture through Gumtree as well.

I've never used Gumtree officially for anything other then advertising a car I've sold. I wouldn't pay in any other way than PayPal. Always. No matter what the cost. Only other payment method would be cash in person.

Did you see it during your search by any chance?

I saw one with plates BVH51R. If he had gotten that one, I would've highly recommended that he take it straight back to the seller. It is noted as a repairable write-off. Initially bought the car before doing the RTA check (yes, very stupid) but I ended up cancelling the cheque the very next morning and taking it back to him that very afternoon. I was 'ing spewing, but I'd rather have a decent car then one that was immaculate with a write-off note attached to it.

Lucky that he didn't pick it up.
