Adam, by the looks of it you don't really want to spend much. Truth is, yes, but it will still work, just not great.

 

I'd rather not spend it on stuff thats not properly matched though :) Could trawl ebay/gumtree for a better amp I guess.

It really comes down to what you want out of it.

 

Do you want to just get a bit more bass from your music, or do you want the next town over to hear the panels of your car rattling to pieces?

That's got a bit of kick to it. Like ash said. It really depends on what you want out of your music.
In my impreza I had a 600w sub with a 400w mono amp and I was happy with that. I just wanted more bass.
