HAHA I'm way more interested in the boat bus that goes past half way through that video

Used to be a dude drive an army duck around when I was younger, used to drive around town then on the odd occasion would see him just drive it down the boat ramp into the water hehe.

Is it just me or is that car way over priced?

Also wheels are gayer than aids. Why must commodore owners buy the worst looking wheels that they can find in the bob jane catalogue?

Afternoon all.

Sorry to have to bring up this private health insurance stuff again, but I have no one else to talk to about it properly.

When you think about it, young athletic types are more likely to break a limb.

But seriously, I wouldn't worry about hospital cover until it is actually avoiding a tax, meaning wait until your 31st birthday, then the consequent July 1st date - signing up before then will really only give you an edge on elective surgeries.

Benefit cover which is things like dental/optical/physio is reasonably cheap, you should be on a decent package for under $40/m

AHM Fund seems to give the best value as far as I can tell.

That's probably true. I will want to ensure I am covered for things like physio and what not, but I have no particular illnesses or anything which is why it is something I don't want to pay for if I'm not going to use it. With regards to hospital cover, not even the bare minimum?

Those are the exact things I'm after and I don't want to pay any tax with relation to it all, that's the other main factor (I've had a read through this). Is it true that I only pay that tax if I am earning over a certain amount? I can definitely afford about $40 per month which is good news. I did a few quotes a while ago but forgot to write them down. I'll do some research and see which suits me. Jess is with ahm and ensures she uses it to the maximum she can even when she knows her teeth and what not are perfect. Thanks for the help Nik, much appreciated man.

With private health funds, you HAVE to attend their particular places right? I mean, I don't have a permanent dentist but I want to use the guy that got my tooth fixed the last time which was about three to four years ago. I can't go to him if whichever fund I choose don't have him listed, right?

Yep, I can vouch for this.

I am with NIB and I use the optical/dental/message a bit.

Good to hear. I've gotta start getting into the habit of going for the check ups. I haven't seen a dentist for years, and I've not checked out my vision or hearing since I came back from overseas in year 9 (I finished year 12 in 2006, so that's around 11 years).

Actually, I did have a hearing test at work but I doubt that's as full on as getting one of these check ups done.

Looks like some heavy shit is about to go down in Thailand. The military has just declared martial law

Thank God I went there earlier in the year then!

Either way, Gary, this site is good although it is slightly intrusive (they will call you within minutes)

http://www.iselect.com.au/

AHM is a branch of MediBank, so pretty stable.

I used iSelect a while back and didn't receive a call, although I did get emailed (and still do) every now and then. I received an email today saying this:

"Hi Gary,
Without hospital cover you could be in a world of pain by the June 30 tax deadline. What many don't realise is that it can be cheaper to have basic hospital cover than pay the tax for not having it. Tax is calculated by day, so no matter what the date, you could start saving from today!

Luckily the iSelect Detax is so easy!"

I'll look into NIB and ahm as they seem to be the popular ones. What's your opinion on Bupa?
