China is more powerful, has more money, and more friends. Japan has US, but US won't do anything, as US entering a war with China will lose UN support (both are on security council). Russia will back China, Japan will have to be ultra compliant, give up the Island chain China wants or risk losing all. Aus won't intervene because it'd be like a poodle getting in a dogfight. South Korea hates Japan as well, if China delivers pacified North, then South will allow China to mess with Japan as long as it doesn't encroach on them.

PS: Russia taking Crimea is a massive test for modern geopolitical state, Russia walked into another country and just took it, and the world did nothing. That shows us that the West is fearing Russia's power, China is and will do the same to it's neighbours. Look up their territorial sea claims.

We're in that tight spot where our market isn't small enough for Japan to just give us JDM, but isn't big enough for us to negotiate prices.

 

That being said, the price of cars had stayed fairly steady in comparison to everything else, house prices, power prices, wages etc. So that in itself should be enough.
