Shit go Gaz, reminds me to get car serviced before drive to QLD. Fix will be way cheaper, but I'll give you $2k for it if you don't want to get it fixed :P

Sucks Gaz.

If you have to get it fixed to sell it, you may as well keep it. You love your car and have invested a lot into it.

Besides, who's to say the next thing you buy won't blow a head gasket soon enough..... knowing your luck, cubt.

If it's the head gasket or something as "simple" as that, I will get it fixed and keep it. I'll see what the mechanic near me says, and will try and get it down to ICHIban. I'm gonna have to hire a trailer with a winch to get it down though. Anyone know how much it will cost?

Ha ha, tell me about it. I love the car too much so I don't want to get rid of it.

My girlfriend noticed it and before I could get out of the car to have a look at it, I really couldn't tell. I will say possibly, but I cannot confirm man. Is it a better situation if coolant was coming out with the water?

Now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure they changed the rocker cover gaskets, not the head gasket. I'll have to look at the receipt to confirm.

Ha ha, at this stage I'll have to say no. I could get more than that in wrecking it anyway should that be the worst-case scenario. :P

In addition to my above comments Gaz, shit go.

Seriously, head gasket faults are a very common fault for a lot of makes and models. Well worth spending the money to get the car fixed.

Head gaskets would have cost a couple K Gaz.  Bluekong's cost 4k to do.... by Screwbaru.

I didn't pay that BTW, before my time.

Fair enough. How much am I looking at for the repair?

Claw hammer and a chisel is all you need.

Oh, and a chalk line to make sure it's straight.

Pfft... I used to dream of owning a claw hammer.

Had to make do with a half brick.

lol

What's a pay cheque?

As soon as she hands it to you, slowly take of your pants, then, while staring her straight in the eyes rub it against the tip of you penis, while continuing your painfully intense gaze whisper to her;

"My eye is watering, this might be a bit hot"

I should just convert to single, right?

Worst case is you need a new engine

But sounds like you caught it early
So maybe head gasket and a service on the heads should do it

That's what I thought. Any idea on the figure I'm expecting to be quoted, Rob? How much for a head gasket and how much for the heads to be serviced?

Shit go Gaz.

Give Ben or Scott a ring they will be able to give you the best idea of what your up against.

Ring a tow company for a price to get it there might not be that much.

I'd say 1000 bucks minimum

A lot of that is labour, parts wouldn't cost too much

Sweet. At least I have a figure. Thanks man.

I'll be doing that tomorrow, but I will wait for the workshop I left it at to let me know what they think it might be so I have more info to give. Anyone I know now is just vague and assumptions. Is it worthwhile hiring a trailer with a winch on it or just getting it towed down?

Gaz, you will only have an idea of cost once your chosen repairer has quoted it.

Its all well for someone to say mine cost $1k or mine were $3k. There are so many variables for the same job. Did the heads just need a crack test and skim or did all the valves need new guides and a reseat? Does the cooling system need a new pump, hoses, radiator, thermostat? What is the mileage? WHat is the customers budget?

Im sure you could find someone to do it for under a grand, but would you trust the work?

That's fair enough. I just wanted to get an idea on what I'm expecting to fork out, that's all. It's always better to have the money set aside for the repair. I haven't trusted anyone apart from the ICHIban boys for work on my car. I'll give them a call tomorrow once I get some details on the issues.
