1995 Subaru Legacy [EJ20HDWAJE]; Check Engine Light is on.

I would like to use the collective knowledge; How does one go about reading the error codes?

I understand the fundamentals, plug the OBD2 scanner into the OBD2 socket under the steering wheel, turn ignition on [engine off] and read away.

So where do I get this scanner? Supercheap Auto? Repco? Jaycar? Ebay? (Did I answer my own question? I am located in Sydney area, NSW)

Anyone with their experience, kindly share please!

Thank you in advance.

From my limited understanding, anything prior to "new age" subaru (2001) won't work with those ODBII scanners, you need to use the "flashing lights" method Rob linked to above. Works fine.

It was error code #21.

I removed the alternator to get to the coolant temp. sensor. I took it out, cleaned it.

I checked the leads between the sensor and the fuse-box (the one in engine bay) and the connection is ok. (It beeps on my multimeter).

I noticed one of the air hoses on the intercooler wasn't tightened, I tightened it, put everything back together.

Check engine light is gone.
