Younger....by what.....several months?

You try to speak like you've done this for a while.

Everything you do to this car has been somewhat of a rash nature. Your age and lack of experience with cars is also somewhat concerning.

I bet you $100 you'll "have a go" on your way home... and $200 you'll scare yourself. (hopefully without doing any damage to yourself).

I've seen people do what you're doing now Tristan. With catastrophic results. You're no different. Not one bit.

i know i haven't done this a while, but i try not to pretend like my driving skills are better than they are...

and, yeh, it's been like 8 months or something... but i've grown more this past year (being my first year in the 'real world', i.e. outside school/uni) than i have in any years before it...

i'm not trying to come across all sage-like, nor am i trying to pretend that i'm not still young and stupid... i'm just saying that i know that i am, and try to keep tabs on it as best i can...

I don't want to see this escalate into an attack on Tristan. Positive discussions on experiences, or preventative actions will get my thanks.

Tad Harsh Alex, but I can see where you're coming from. Tristan, the guy who guttered his Liberty after speeding in the rain, in the Sydney suburbs. when he had owned it for no more than 2 weeks, is now converting his engine for more power, sounds the tiniest bit scary. And I remember rumours of a dodgy carpark exit at a monthly meet. And by the way, tail light tint = Epic fail, I've seen a douche tint his entire garnish and lights, hence why he's now a douche. Nick

If thy tint is dark and thy wheels are black thou car be declared b11tchin'

So you can run it on 6psi with an rx fuel pump? :P

i was gonna go to one this month actually... but i decided to wait till the new engine goes in, seen as it will drive like a completely different car...

i wasn't speeding, i was just unaware that the car didn't have ABS and freaked out when one of the wheels locked... i've learnt from that though, i break early and take corners slowly in the wet...

and the car park exit was a misjudgment of where the exit was from the hooters carpark... though i was showing off, again, i have learnt from that...

and (from memory) kosti has tinted rear garnish on his B4 and i think it looks good...

each to their own...

It may be harsh Nik, but I make my comment based on two things:

1) When I was Tristan's age, I had a '80 model corolla. Almost flipped the thing that many times, I've honestly lost count. I've reached speeds in that thing that nobody thought would be possible. I punished that car to limits that would make anyone nervous. I was young. I was stupid. But I thank my parents for getting me into a slow car with about 20 odd kw. (?KW on a 4K pushrod corolla?) Imagine now that with about 180 odd kw.... Recipe for disaster.

2) I work in an operating theatre in one of Sydney's largest Trauma Centre hospitals. Need I say more?

That's all it takes, Tristan. One misjudgment.....

Kosti's is factory tinted. Home made tinted garnish = fail.

Tristan. If you're keen on doing a course, and could wait a few months I would be interested in doing it upon my return from my work trip to SL. That will be just over 3 months away though, provided everything goes to plan. I think that a lot of people would benefit from these courses, and I think Paul (twinturbosubaru) can recommend someone good. I think that doing them in a group is the way to go, and we may even receive a slight discount. If not, we still can have a nice day out with our cars in a safe environment with some mates, and better our driving. Sounds like a good day out to me.

That's probably the smartest use of a cruise day for any car club.

No I totally agreed with you Alex, the QLD P-plate rules, which were intro'd in July 2007, saved my life, as I was getting a GC8 Rex as my first Automobile, if I had gotten it, instead of my NA Liberty, I'd have crashed it, and possibly injured myself badly, mainly due to the amount of highway driving I do on a regular basis, and my access to roads where 140km/h can be reached without fear of traffic or police. Long story short, we are, and were, all young drivers at some stage, and young drivers make mistakes. Mainly due to a lack of respect for road rules and our and our car's limits.

Defensive Driving Courses are a win-win. And how the fcuk do you lock a wheel in an AWD doing 50km/h?

I know what would improve the appearance of your car...

A Molotov.

:P

Bwahahaha, good one Alex

Tristan, your car could do with an RX kit and some touching up of the paint before anything like tail light tint. You've already got good wheels and a nice ride height. You just need to fix up the rest of it and it'll look good :) But get that engine in there first and then worry about the exterior!

And defensive driving courses are great! I've went to two last year (2008) and they taught me heaps about cars on the limit. Even basic stuff I hadn't really practiced has prepared me for the worst better than I was prepared before I went in. And I thought I knew it all....

But really, it didn't teach me much more than I already knew. And at the end of the day, if for example you have that dumb-as-f**k attitude towards driving, no defensive driving course is gonna stop you from f**king up big time. Its all about driver attitude....

What does the number of driven wheels have to do with the ability to lock them up?

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

you've never cornered, even slowly (below the speed limit), on a patch of slippery road, and the abs has kicked in and surprised you??

maybe the roads round my place are slipperier than yours...??

That's all it takes, Tristan. One misjudgment.....

anyone can make a misjudgement, even seasoned race car drivers...

look, guys... i'm sorry if i've been coming off as a douche or whatever... i don't mean to be... i don't (or at least try not to) make any excuses for my driving, if i've done something stupid i can admit that it's stupid and do my best not to do it again...

and i'm sure i can wait a few months before doing a defensive driving course. it would make for a good day out, that's for sure...
