Hello fellow's. Had a brainstorm last night (Yes i have only recently recovered), and was thinking. Would it be a good idea to Limit new members access to the Introductions thread only until they make an introduction thread? Why you ask? For a couple of reasons: A: It will give them a chance to converse with us prior to jumping into other discussions. This will make it easier for them to fit in and know where they stand. B: It will give us the chance to sus them out, and effectively accept or reject them as a member of the community. This may seem harsh, it may well be. But i think we all know what can happen if people appear willy nilly and do as they please. It makes for rather unhappy campers. Whats your opinion on the matter?

Yes, good idea, but not a post limit though to gain access. as that will encourage spam etc.. maybe mods/admin have to aproove. ACTRSLC had this sort of entry back in its day

Should we have done this prior to your signup then? :D

He does, as do any of the other Admin. But if the Forum really takes off, that's an impossible task. Also while it may work for spammers and ass wipes. What about people that just wont be a good thing for our community? As much as it will make life easier for us, it will make life easier for the newby as well. Think of it as an orientation.

Yes flaming is amusing, once every while. But as we've seen else were it gets you no where if its constant. If the newbie has no choice but to say Hello prior to getting into the forums, my bet is they will. They already have to sign up in order to view the forums anyway. This would be just another measure.

Another thing. Something Petar originally coined last night. (When he rolled over in bed) Whats the thoughts on a 90day exclusion from posting new threads in the classifieds? This will help prevent people signing up just to flog parts.

Great idea Paul. You can pretty much always get a feel for someone from their intro thread.

This will help prevent people signing up just to flog parts.

Three months works if the forum's big and the classifieds forum has got enough movement (look at the OCAU forums, for example) but for a small forum like this, it's a bit hard.

Easiest thing would be to have the classifies as a separate group which an admin must approve.

We keep talking about us being a small site. It will only continue to be a small site if we don't build all of these things into it. Build it, and they will come!

You both raise good points. I guess the classifieds is something that can be changed later on, so as to suit the size of the forum. Perhaps use Tangcla's idea now, and shift the layout later?
