Yeah, holding off on that until I have more adjustable components. I recall the designer of this platform says that if increasing power the rear needs more weight. I have only increased by about 20-30kW but still might apply.

So did an oil change today, Toyota do 15,000km and 30,000km services due to synthetic oils. Whilst this is fine I decided 22,500km was a good interval to freshen it up, without pissing money up against the wall in oil and filters.

First off, bought some Nulon 5w30 on sale at Supercheap. The 86 takes 5.5Land SCA are the only guys who sell the 6L bottles (as opposed to 5L). Also got some Wesfil filters Plenty of exxier filter options like K&N, TRD etc, and of course OEM, but I found Wesfil to be the good medium.

Another key part was a new Fumoto oil drain valve (see below), which will make future oil changes easy for both me and the service tech.

Easy peasy oil change due to top mounted oil filter. You all now how it goes so minimal pics.

The BRZ uses synthetic oil also m8.

I see you used 5w30, the BRZ uses 0w20.

Did your owners manual say 5w30 ??

Yeah 0w20 is the factory spec, but 5w30 is the common substitute and is still within spec, and Nulon is full synthetic. This is the second oil change with Nulon 5w30, my last one was done with Toyota and they agreed the Nulon was better than what they were putting in. The oil I pulled out was still ok, but I am happy it isn't doing another 7,500km

Yep 5w30 long life is fine
The 5w20 nulon will give the best fuel economy but not by much.

More protection with the 5w30 also

Extinguisher install.

Used KAP industries bracket ($65) and SCA Extinguisher - Metal bracket.

Car is meow CAMS legal so I can enter events! Hopefully get a taste of tarmac rally in Feb or Mar and then an official hillclimb mid year at Huntley. 0c76ee1a43c42c6db874675b99e37ac1.jpg

Sooo, got a hillclimb done in Feb and another in Mar. Car did well, my PB was 33.46. Plenty of room for improvement. On a sidenote Wob blitzed it with a 26 flat so I think Id need FI and AWD to get more competitive :P.

Took car down south to hit some windy roads with Mexicans, car did really well. I went on the trip pretty ambivalent about the 86, but 3 days of mountain roads left me in awe of this platform.

Now weather is getting cooler the car will see its first track days. Bought some Intima SR pads, HEL lines and scored some nice vented rotors off Simon so will give the brakes a good upgrade, with some decent fluid.

Also scored some decent wheels at a good price, forged Takeshi Project Racing Hart CP-035. Whilst they are staggered widths (8"F, 9"R) I wrapped them all in 245/40R17 AD08s. Bit worried about front fitment, inside of tyre might hit springs but nothing a 10mm spacer can't fix.

Have a sprints day in May and hopefully track day in June, schedule depending, so will update then. bbdfc06d96e9168ff7c2c3a8a0844677.jpgc7e64ab5becb7d2b03878a47fcdeb018.jpgf8f81e6030b276a95052963d160701ef.jpg

So after a quiet April, I installed my HEL lines and replaced the OEM Dot3 fluid with some Nulon High Temp Dot4. Then a few days later tested out my handy work at South Circuit SMSP with the VW National Supersprints. Only got a very novice 1.11.3040 but gave me an awesome first experience on the track, and opportunity to test the current setup.

I was already going to purchase TEIN Monosports, and the sprints only confirmed my choice. The Eibachs are great for street and some mountain roads but really did not stand up well around cambered corners. I am also needing to either adjust the rearsway to soft, or replace with OEM.

Meanwhile the AD08s went well, they are still new and I didn't quite get a good chance to break them in, but they are getting there. I didn't experience 'sloppiness' with the 245 on the front 8"s so will be sticking with this setup (unless a decent pair of 225/45R17 semis come up for a bargain).

I also picked up some new Oil, switching from Nulon to Penrite given the busy months ahead.

Plans prior to Subinats in Aug:
Oil change - Penrite HPR 5 5w40
Install TEINs
Install DBA T3s
Possibly refurb and install 4 pots.
Track Alignment and Spanner check
Remove/adjust rear sway
Wakefield trackday (test new setup)
Harrop supercharger (I wish!)

Sooo.... Here we are at the end of July.

No TEINs :( .

After giving it some thought I decided to go with a local manufacturer that actively supports the 86/BRZ and Subaru community, including running a Time Attack 86. So, after a trackday earlier this month I cracked open the laptop and ordered some tasty MCA Race Primes. These share the same valving as the race Reds, and come with springs and dampening setup for the track. I chose these over the cheaper but comparable Street Performance due to a neglible price difference, and the fact that the 86's biggest days are on the track or windy roads, with minimal daily commuting.

They took a while to get here, and I have just completed install. Pretty simple install up front but the rear took 2 nights (3hrs total). I decided against installing my Hardrace Rear LCAs as I didnt see a need to increase camber, and I'm not too certain they would decrease camber to the -1.5 I want. I also took off my Whiteline rear sway bar in favour of the OEM bar, but still held on to the Kartboy endlinks.

Happy with result, need to fiddle around with it all this week to get front camber sorted and then hopefully a sneaky Sunday drive.

I now just need an alignment in Aug prior to Subinats and then should be all good to tear it up.

Alignment was done at Heasmans in Aug. I still need to get rear sorted, but will get there soon.

Subinats was great, spent 2 days at SMSP testing the car on 3 of the circuits. Got a lot of wheel time and set some good lap times. Was able to beat over 15 AWD turbo Subarus, which was surprising.

Oil temps were high (+138°) so an oil cooler is on the agenda, as is a catch can. Hope to have those sorted before next big track event.

Meanwhile my Intima SR pads were astonishing, really held up to the abuse all w/e. They really are a great pad, and given the price you'd be hard pressed to get a better pad for even twice the money. One of the Intima sponsored cars was there aswell, and he was blitzing the track in an otherwise stock WRX.

I took home trophies for the fastest lap times on each circuit for my Class, plus overall winner of my Class. We don't need to talk about how many cars were in my Class . Bit annoyed I didnt get to go in the next class as I would've placed 2nd in the Street class, beating a few WRXs in the process.

It was a great weekend and the WRX Club did themselves proud.

I am undecided at the moment as to whether the 86 will see another NSW track this year, I am flirting with the idea of Luddenham but we will see.

Cheers guys.

Not much has happened since Subinats. I went rallying with Wob again in Oct before leaving NSW for a new home in SA. Stayed overnight in Mildura which coincided with a classic car show (pic below)

For those in the know, SA now boasts The Bend motorsport park, the 2nd longest track in the world! It's been too hot to get down there over summer, but looking forward to getting the 86 out for a lap or two in Autumn.

Mods wise I installed the rear LCAs (pic below), removed the Whiteline sways. I have cleaned up the 4pots and will give them a lick of paint before next track day.

AD08Rs are great for track when warm. Bit sketchy cold on public roads. Get a bit oily too.... But I only run them every 2 months, on a daily they'd maybe act differently with regular but lower heat cycles. Have gotten good times on mine, and they are like 2016 manufactured.

Liking the RE003s vs the KU39s for daily commute though, however so much NVH with coils, LCAs and stiffer links.
