Awesome update and score on the six speed! What did Jolly’s sting you for that?

Huge difference on the airbag badge ring. HUGE! :P

Keep up the good work.

Cheers

Bennie

I think it was 189. Not mine unfortunately, not that i need another one lol

I see your 6sp is the earlier type that has the oil pump and external oil line.

That hydro blasting makes the alloy look like its new.

Yeah but weirdly has a newer style front diff. Just subaru things i guess. Easy to hook up a cooler though lel

Gearbox back in for hopefully the last time in a while. Rob was down for the weekend so paid him in KFC and beers to come and help put it in
Ejj6fFB.png

Wasnt as bad as i was expecting. Used the engine crane to hold the front of the box up then a trolley jack under the back and some jiggle forking to get it into the clutch. Slid in like butter first try

With the box in we swapped the HEL clutch line out for an STI one and rebled the clutch
LLXxEkF.png

And now have a complete interior. Super happy with it

On sunday we had the usual Christmas BBQ

Damn, I missed the bbq! Actually I can’t complain about missing it. The brumby has pinging issues on the open road and Ruby Scoo popped a castleatted nut on one of the front hubs. This keeps the front hub on the driveshaft and the driveshaft holds the bearings under tension as such. Good times ;(

Interior looks good.

When will this hit the road?

Cheers

What a busy few weeks its been.

With a few weeks off over christmas i planned to get the registered and on the road or at least a road worthy. Things started off well; with the gearbox back in and everything hooked up I drove the car out of the shed for the first time and gave it a proper wash
Z0dXUWL.jpg
izDgNl5.jpg

it was now i noticed i hadnt quite sealed up the rear separator plate properly and had a slow drip from the back of the engine. So a metal plate was sourced from a friend and the engine came back out
wLGUrco.jpg

With that sorted i took the car for its first drive off the block to the servo and a lap of the block. OEM bar is so i dont damage the Syms bar before its painted
F3D3brn.jpg

Heres where things went down hill. The engine has 0 power. I couldnt even go up hill in 3rd with WOT. A compression test showed 120 psi in the front 2 cylinders. The engine is knackered.

In the meantime i sorted out a number of smaller issues like milky power steering
0CUEQG3.jpg

Drained the reservoir and reseated it onto the pump. Fixed
Airbag light on the dash
This connecter in the footwell as seated but the green bit hadnt clicked in. Fixed
us8TILE.jpg

Limped the car to a tyre shop for an alignment. Fixed.

Made the handbrake do something. Fixed

Back to the engine; a local wreckers had a 25D albeit in an un smashed RX. Always worrying

So with the help of a mate went and yanked it out. Engine was full of green coolant so unlikely to have blown a HG. No obvious metal or milk in the sump either so double win. Had 180 psi of compression and my mate found what looks like a dealer tag in the car. So likely a new car trade in sold to the wreckers. Winner
s6ZrchT.jpg

Gave it a quick clean up and checked the timing as it was going in whole to make sure its good
fyx3mZB.jpg
wtBZvY1.jpg
Got it in and fired it up half complete. No rod knock so was good enough reason to finish putting it back together. Filled it with water and found my rad hose had suddenly started leaking
bb3dDhz.jpg

So a new rad hose from SCA and got stuck into bleeding it. Thats when it started knocking lmao

Runs good at idle. 3k rpm~ or so has the beginning of a rod knock

So a bit lost of what to do now and will get back to you when i figure it out lol

Money no but i can get either another engine or store credit. Not useless but close to it.

No more 25Ds at the wreckers and pretty over unknown engines at the moment

Good idea not to supply Wob with Woodstocks, otherwise plaster boards will need some repairs.

That's a bugger the new 25D is chons.

Shit mate that super sucks balls!

Thought about throwing a 251 in? Only thing is I can’t remember if the intake manifold is a direct fit or not...

Actually, check the cam tensioner to make sure it’s good. Use a stethoscope if you need to.

Have you properly warmed it up and done the rev up/down/ hold to see if it’s still there? Could try telling the RWC dude it’s piston slap if need be.

Good thing is the car looks MINT! I bet your frothing to have it on the road!! You’ll never go back to a sedan. Plenty of room for kids and shit that naturally follows them ;) ;) ;) (get a cargo barrier, super handy to stack the rear cargo area to the ceiling! :P

Cheers

Think about swapping oil pumps too.

Apparently the earlier EJ22 ran a larger oil pump compared to the 25D.

Have you removed the sump and had a good look?

So instead of actually making the car run again ive been procrastinating with turbo stuff.

Got the 3037 clocked correctly and made the wastegate work ish
oClPmKa.jpg

Should all work good
UqjtRSn.jpg

Clearance issue with the reg that I fixed with a reg relocation fitting and will install the sard reg i got from the twist mount donor car
qzlWs4r.jpg

After that i got distracted by cleaning the daily Mazda and finally invested in some decent car wash
kgzjl1m.jpg

Normally id get everything powder coated however i want to get some mods done to my cooler piping first as well as use a twin turbo intake manifold for COP so sticking with the STi style manifold for now and going with the everything black theme. So a few coats off gloss black later

Stop procrastinating! Pull the dash, drop the turbo in and get on with it!
