Hi, One of the local brewhaus' has completely removed cascade from their beers. Just bored with it. Interesting I thought. Their pale ale is one of the best around now, better for the change. I love constantly evolving brews. Especially if I've been drinking them for years. Cheers, Nik

at 18.2%, you certainly notice the, ah ether ?

It smells sweet, fuits and vanilia maybe

*sips*

so sweet on the tip of your tounge. Taste like a stout, oh and then some smoke comes in at the very end. Not over the top mind you, just a gentle reminder that it was in a barrel. The % is hardly there (apart from the sweetness), and then its warm in your tum tum

Fruit sweetness too.

I <3 this beer

nomnomnomnomnomnomnom *sips* nom nom nom nomnomnom

This is how poor things are round my area: For his B'day I thought I'd try to get something for me bro from the Brewdogs range as they seem to be winners from Mr Richo's descriptions... ring the two most yuppiest bottleshops in the 2 most yuppiest places where all the richy riches live and ask if they've got any Brewdogs beer instock. Response: "Brewdogs?? What's Brewdog's, never heard of it" :dash2:

Hi,

That really is bad. To not have heard of Brewdog and call yourself a speciality brew shop is heinous.

Hen's Tooth!

You may well be familiar with the UK classic, Old Speckled Hen. This is a special brew, bottle conditioned, with flavour and balance which is as rare as a 'Hen's Tooth - or so the bottle would appear to tell me. But damn. This is nice. Very moreish for a 6.5% brew. I would describe it as a special pale ale, nice thick mouthfeel, especially when allowed to open up to some room temperature for a minute. The pour holds a very strong head, as to be expected from a bottle conditioned brew I s'pose, but it was most impressive. The importance of this is it allows you to drink through the head, unleashing the hop notes to really kick in the bitterness.

As you guys know, I like them bitter.

Colour: Red amber
Taste: Toffee and red fruits

4/5 Pints.

Cheers,
Nik

Sounds good Niko,

This looks interesting - Micro-brewery where you make the beer.

Hi, This coming a week after they announced that they are closing the brewery side of the Sail & Anchor, with the brew now being made off site by an 'independent brewery'. They also bought 25% of Gage Roads last year, so they obviously have a strong interest in the Western Australian brewery market. Battling out with Lion & Nathan for pretty much as many breweries as you can buy in WA. Heck, Lion Nathan bought Durty Nelly's last year! (Or maybe it was a controlling stake, similar, can't remember exactly.) Do you have a link to the story? I can't find anything. Cheers, Nik

Nah had a good poke about, can't find any direct new article about it, but I know people on the inside (not nearly the top) and it's apparently well known internally.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Hi, The main reason they are gulping up rights to, and the larger brewing facilities is so that they can brew under licence, bottle and sell straight to the WA market without having to transport across the Nullabor. If memory serves that was one of the reasons they put $2m towards Gage Roads, so they could brew that Platinum Blonde shit. It would be surprising if Lion Nathan didn't go the same way, or aren't already, considering they have the brew rights to Becks, Heineken, Kirin, etc. etc. Cheers, Nik

Mikkeller Cream Ale Low on malt, but a good bit of hop aroma, flavour and bitter. Very easy to drink, I think it would be nice in summer.

Hi, A lot of stouts have cocoa and vanilla added, just not many say it on the tin. I know a gold medal winner that used catering style chocolate powder. Hibiscus beer? I am getting worried about you Richo. Cheers, Nik

Mikkeller - Beer geek brunch, weasel Niiiiiice I was supprised as I don't normally like oatmeal stouts, but nom nom... The beer pours very thick.. as in its like watered down syrup (essence of stout ?) Quite a low carbonation, but the head that you get is loose and realy really dark brown. Strong coffee and malt aroma as you would expect. A little choc flavour in there too ? Could really taste coffee in the brew, but if I didn't know it had civet poo coffee I doubt I would have been able to tell the difference between it and any other coffee being added.

Hi, Nice review. I will look forward to trying one. FYI the IBS is not getting hardly anything from North America or Canada going forward. So if you want any Unibroue, get it now. Cheers, Nik
