Well if you look at the picture of my car, you wouldn't think theres window tint. However, I was looking through the log-books and found a window tint warranty card and realised my car DOES have window tint. Only its so faint, it doesn't block bugger all. Don't know why anyone would pay money for that... Anyway good to have the tint done now before the Summer kicks in.

Yup, its that metallic window tint which cuts the UV rays and does not much else.

Useless.

I wouldn't care so much, its just that it costs an extra $60 to strip the tint.

Yeah mine is like that, Although it looks fairly dark from the outside, you don't notice it inside.

Looks very nice mate! Bet it looks the goods with your plates on too! Argh you got an arm rest in the back seat! Hows the tan leather? Ah the memories! Noticed there is no dual range though - or is that a manual-only feature?

The seats are much better than those in the Gen2 as you know. But that tan leather is a bit in your face compared to the subtle dark grey/black combo I had in my RX. I did just manage to stumble upon some cupholders I never knew existed in the back, so that was a nice treat.

Dual range is a manual-only thing on these cars I believe.

The cupholders in teh back are also a bit bigger than the one next to the climate control which is handy for bigger bottles. Still not overly huge though. The one you have next to the handbrake could be even bigger again. Plates look mad. Hope it doesnt rain you left the sunroof open :P

Congrats on the OBK. Thats a pretty well spec'd up ride. I do like the sunroof, and totally agree about it been fit-for-purpose. I've thought about ditching my 00' OBK but just cant find anything to match it on function and price. The closest I found was an Audi All-Road, but the price was way too steep (though the 4.2ltr V8 would be most welcome). No doubt you'll get many happy miles and enjoy many great adventures.

So I've had my car just over a week now and heres what I've done so far:

1. Replaced factory tint with 22% all round
2. Replaced interior and licence plate light bulbs with LEDs
3. Had Rhino alarm + 3/3 point immobiliser installed
4. Put old rego plates on

My only gripe so far has to do with the engine + gearbox as a combo. Firstly, whilst the engine develops a healthy power output of 154KW, its all up at the top end of the rev range which doesn't make it all that accessible. Low down there isn't an aweful lot of power and off the mark I think my old RX was almost as brisk because whatever little power it had (115KW) was available at lower RPM.

The gearbox has this obsession with finding top gear as soon as I lift off the throttle. This means the engine is practically sleeping half the time (~1000 RPM) and hence I've got little in-gear torque to overtake unless it kicks back a gear. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a big-ish 3.0L in the first place. I'm getting use to it but I feel the best way to overcome this is by a tune.

In the short term - I'm going to get a K&N air filter hopefully next week.

In addition to this, I've located a set of replacement front seats at a wrecker, so I might get them next week as my front seats are looking a bit worse for wear.

Hi, Is a tune really likely to change the shift points/behaviour of the box? Cheers, Nik

Hi,

Cheers,
Nik

Well I was talking to Paul (TwinTurboSubaru) at our local meet the other night and he has a Gen4 with the H6. He mentioned how I might be able to adjust (to an extent) all those sorts of characteristics with a tune or aftermarket ECU. Probs the later...

My memory fails me, but could someone provide me some insight into this? I know an aftermarket ECU is pricey but it would be worth it in the long-term.

No thanks Shane, my woodgrain is in good condition so no need to replace as yet. I will however buy those JDM clear side courtesy lights if ever you want to sell :D

And if you were to upgrade you would upgrade to the AUDM B4 brushed aluminium look trimmings, that stuff shits all over the JDM model.

it is designed to be a lazy car, there won't be much you can do about the lack of torque low down. they are heavy cars coupled to an auto tranny = no fun. manual conversion would far outweigh an aftermarket computer + tune (not to mention would be cheaper)
