Take cash money.
Offer $14k cash in the hand right now.
They'll take it after seeing wads of money. I would...

Then spend the other $2.5k you've allowed for suspension mods.

I don't want to insult them by low balling them though... U really reckon 14k?

Ken oath - or do like Shaz said, $13.5k then if they say no, $14k or walk away.
They'll bite when they see cash.

$14K offer on a $16.5K car isn't low-balling. Sellers gotta understand that everyone wants a good deal, so they gotta play ball as much as they are willing too.

You've been smart about it so far. You've considered other cars and not bought the first car you've looked at. You've got the upper hand at the moment so make them a low offer and see what they say.

hahah my car was literally the seventh or eighth id looked at!

If it were me, I'd jump in at $13.8K with room to move to $14.2K. If they play hard, pay whatever your actually willing to pay to get the car. But stick to your guns and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. As a guide - my car was advertised for $16K, I offered them $12.8, negotiated, negotiated, negotiated and got the car for $13.2K. So depending on the seller, there are certainly 1000's of dollars to be shed if you play hard.

I like this method :)
My car was originally advertised for 7500 and i got it for 6350 so good husslin in my books lol :) was cash too

Yeah cash is king. I dropped the guy on my Lib from $10k to $5k cash.

that is epic.

I just rang the wife, she said 14K is way too low... So i said 14.5K, stll to low and she said they are looking at closer to what its advertised for so i said the car needs rego so thats $1000 off and also the body needs a lil work so theres another $500 off so that makes it 15K and she said she would have to speak to the boss and she will call me back...

She said Im the only that has looked at since they put it up so i dont think they are in a real rush to sell it...

So I SMS him 15k cash n to call me to discuss further...

Thats okay Chris, all part of negotiating :)

Just re-emphasise the point that its a genuine offer, your not here to waste anyones time blah blah, you got the money etc. I've found it pays to be respectful. People selling cars are so use to potential buyers doing nothing but find fault with the car. Tell them you like the car, you like the mods etc HOWEVER [and start to list the faults with it and a rough breakdown of costs for you to fix them].

Reiterate the fact that you've already moved on price and you've got other cars on the list which are within budget. Your in no hurry to buy but looking to have something within the next week or so. You'll do fine mate, just keep at it! Even if you pay $16K for it, you're up the deal thanks to all those mods.

Just had a quick chat over the fone with him stating my reasons of $15k n he still didnt budge. So i said wat about $15.5k n he said he'd be happy to but needs to talk the mrs first...

He just sent me an SMS sayin "G'day Chris, Like I first mentioned I'm not going down less than $16k . I have drop it $500. Straight off when I first spoke to you. You will get the extra intercooler, and extra bits when I get back to Australia if my wife cannot find it. There is a fair bit of work done to it. That's why the mechanic is willing to buy it of me at the end of the year for $16k. You decide?"

So wat next? Do I tell him to register it then I pay 16k? But the only prob with that is I'll have to wait til the end of the month coz rego isn't til 28 July...

Well its up to you and how much you want it Chris.

He seems fairly firm on price at this point so offer him $15,750 just for that bit of extra money in your pocket.

You could wait another month for him to renew the rego but then you run the risk of someone else buying the car. You gotta ask yourself, does $16K buy you a similarly specced, similarly modded XT?...

In terms of rego - its not a big deal. If you transfer your old plates onto the new car, you'll get a refund for whatever portion of your RX's rego didn't get used up so thats a bit of extra $$$ in your pocket.

just buy it, pretty good deal i reckon

btw with your old rego and insurance with your write off, do you get a refund? or are you just assuming?
because the insurance company owns it now and you dont get it back, well this is what they told me with all my experiences

I could say well the difference between ur mechanic buyin it at the end of the yr is it will have rego then but no rego now so he's getting a better deal? So there's a couple $$ n if he still doesn't budge then I'll just have to bite bullet n pay the $16k but thats going a bit over my budget...

As for the outstanding rego I was told by justcar to just take my letter to the Rta n they will refund me watever rego is left on the car from date of accident n same for my green slip... Does anyone know wat the go is with keeping my plates from the RX despite the fact of justcar now owning it?

Tell them to pay the rego, give you all the extra (O.E I'm assuming?) parts/crap, then you'll pay $16k.

Wont I have to fork out the ordering fee again if they get destroyed?

And risk someone else buyin it in the meantime bcoz that wont be til the end of the month?
