Is fairly easy to change springs with the right tools. You'll def need a set of spring compressor's.

Take shock's out take, top-hat off, swap springs, put back together. The hardest bit is getting the shocks out cause the bolts (bottom) are pretty darn tight. You could prob take the bump stops out while your at it, then just get w/align

Just curious, how hard is it to use spring compressors? How much roughly is it to just get a shop to change the springs?

No they wont fit, the fronts might be the same but the rears will be different I believe. Even if they did, it has already been said that there is quite some variation between the sedan and wagon rears (BE/BH), you would expect there would be even greated differences between a rex and an outback.

How certain are you that the fronts might fit? And yes, very easily entertained...

How about the Kings on ebay? Not sure how they would cope with the extra weight of the Outback though. Says they lower the car by 35mm.

Yeah that same seller has ones to suit the outback gen3 also but i am trying to scrape out the extra 5-10mm or so to make it 40mm. Do you think they would be ok? Or am i better going for monroe gt or pedders?

Whoever said that undoing the bottom bolts on the outback suspension struts is hard... Is exactly ******* right!!!

I tried one of the rear ones and one of the front ones and couldn't budge the bolts at all.. What a waste of time!

If anyone could help on the matter it would be a great help! I'd like to get them in tomorrow if possible..

Cheers

I used... A closed ended spanner (excuse my bad mechanic language, don't really know exactly what the tools are....)
I also tried the open ended spanner, adjustable spanner, the wheel nut taker offerer as that fit. Just couldn't crack any of them...
Also tried using a socket thingy...
Again sorry I don't really know what the different spanners are.

Dont try using a ratchet with a socket as they are prone to break if not good quality.
If you have a short length of steel pipe laying round try putting it on the end of the ring spanner(most common name)
to get some extra leaverage.

Ring spanner thankyou :)
When I go to put the bolts back on should I try to get it as tight as possible?
Thanks for your help mate.

No worries
Not exactly sure on how tight sorry, but i guess it would have to be because its under a large amount of stress.
Maybe some of the others can help with that.

Well unless you had a torque wrench and the specs that tell you how tight you should do them your not going to get them spot on.
However if you put a few arms, your back and maybe a leg in and get it as tight as you can it should be fine.
If yu can crack them with the pipe on the ring spaaner then use that to do them back up s tight as you can.
Unless you can get your hands on a torque wrench???

failing that, try a heatgun on the nut.

If it's sooper dooper tight, i wouldnt be using an open ended spanner as its more likely to slip and round the faces of the nut, i'd be using a socket or ring spanna' or even just the tyre brace, and hit it with a hammer, righty tighty, lefty loosy. ;)
