Find me a mechanic that puts love into his work.

Pure love.

Mechanics like that are hard to find these days.

I pretty much have one, he loves Subaru's. Dude just won the WARC outright on Saturday. Sewn up like buttons baby.

I simply do not have the time to learn/action on doing it. Opportunity cost for me outweighs the inconvenience. I haven't had a problem in the years I've been using my mechanic, and I should have just come out and asked him if he'd do Alisha's car. But he is very strictly only a Subaru man, so I didn't want to offend dude. We have a good relationship though, I consider him a mate, he considers me a chooch that got him to lower his Outback on big stupid wheels - but that's beside the point.

I understand what you're saying, and I got sick of paying for beer that wasn't good enough to drink, or paying out the arse to get something decent, so I made my own.

Can understand that Nik. My dad is the same. And always offers me money if I do things on his car, but I refuse. It's normally a 5 minute job.

But the previous guy seems like he doesn't want customers.

So you have asked him to do Alisha's car?

Can't hurt in asking him to do it, with a little incentive (beer), and I'm sure he'll be OK with it.

A mechanic I use for harder stuff, (although I haven't seen him in a while!!) doesn't typically like ordinary cars, nor turbo cars.

He loves his angry NA's. Mostly Hondas.

Reminds me. I'll have to see him soon about the Celica.

Haha Walts, my neck cracked in each direction. Picture successful.

I'm happy with my mechanic. Only 5 mins down the road and a Subaru specialist. He services all of our cars and always gives an honest report at the end, for VERY reasonable prices. I will be doing the 5000km oil change myself but I'm not particularly mechanical so I like a professional to go over it every few months for me.

We were standing out yesterday (got my car done yesterday - he's mobile too so how Posted Image'ing easy is that for me?) behind my car and a BRIGHT pink, black bonnet'ed, peanut WRX with a scoop the size of my rear tailgate drove in. He must've gotten a shock when he saw the Subaru Rally Team van there... haha, we just stared in disbelief.

He used the other exit when he left.

Oh well. His car, not mine!

My mechanic is a couple doors down from work. He so bloody awesome.
Such a great guy. Might charge a tad more because work's in a classy suburb. But worth it.

For all the Subaru or TT specific stuff, like when I had my gearbox rebuilt etc. I go straight to S&J, but they're a lot further away.

On my car yesterday;

The wheel wobble was brake shudder in the end. All fixed naaaoooo.

Got the headlights working, crusted out connectors again. Real issue on my car, they crust out really quickly over winter. Luckily I bought a fair few last time so that was easy enough.

New headlights, they want $800 each!

What do you guys reckon? I don't think I'll be able to recoup $1600 in the sale price.

The right hand side one still has a crack where the housing meets the body, so if you hit a big bump it can droop down about half a centimetre?

I'd rather just lose a grand off the price, rather than spend two to get it perfect.

For reference I'm putting her up for sale as soon as I get back from Melbourne.

We did a quick fix on the brakes (He assured me it's perfectly safe and probably what most people would do anyway, but they'll be up for new rotors next time the brakes go), I figure it's not going to rain again for a while - so the headlights won't bow out until next year for the new owner.

Nik, no-one uses the headlights on test drives anyway. Who cares?

Just wack it on CarSales when you get back. Too easy.

Fork selling cars on forums. Too many people know the history then. :D

It's not so much the headlights not working, the passenger side is where it's cracked, there is water inside the headlight, like a tiny bit of beading on the front - well, not now we heatgunned it out yitterdee.

I think for the price I'm going to ask for it, it shouldn't be a problem.

Ugh. Back again today, it's obviously condensation inside.

I won't publish my walk away price, but I am going to chuck it up for $16.

You throw the fact I'm in WA, and a couple of other things, eg serviced yesterday/new tyres and a non smoker, very clean interior - I think that's about right.

Did you see that Lorbek link?!
