It does have an EJ207, but like headgasket/bearing issues with EJ20Ks (V3 STi) import motors still let go. Yods Outback had a strong EJ207 but thanks to treatment in Japan it let go of its big-end. Badly.

Doing a V7 conversion at home would be easy as. You could rip the motor out, jam it in the back of a ute (or Gen2 Outback), drive up to mine and do headgaskets, cam seals, front/rear main seals, inspection covers, rocker covers and maybe even bearings in a weekend. We have a spare bedroom you can stay in. This has been done before with a mate's EJ20.

Yep, it's probably the best part of a grand extra, HOWEVER you'd have a motor with fresh head gaskets, fresh main and rod bearings, all fresh seals and gaskets. You would have peace of mind and without cleaning injectors it'd pretty much be a reco motor! Why are you worried about your current combo?
