Why are you worried about your current combo?

Been some metal shavings in the oil a couple of changes ago.

There's no funny noises though.

It's more the box im worried about, crunches into 3rd all the time, and there are some whining noises happening.

And basically if the box goes, im not replacing it with another 5 speed, im going sixer. And I can get an import for a pretty decent price too so its a motor box replacement.

Im probably talking up the little life my motor has, could last another 50,000kms but I want moar boost and moar kwasps, and on a tired motor that is in a car i drive to work every day, its too risky!

I don't know if has been mentioned today or not, but I think the BRZ is definitely coming to Aus.

Sauce: http://www.caradvice...e-to-australia/

“I think it’s a Subaru,” says Senior. “It uses a Boxer engine, our engineers did all the engineering work, and we did the fine-tuning [of the suspension] in Australia.”

Senior says the BRZ wouldn’t even have been a consideration if it had been front-wheel drive, and provides some hope for driving enthusiasts who want to see the rear-wheel-drive coupe on local roads.

“Rear-wheel drive is in keeping with our brand; it delivers driver confidence,” says Senior. “It’s a driver’s car – and Subarus have always been a driver’s car.”

Too big for my liking. :) thats what she said

So that's all that's stopping you from buying one? Hah.

Nope, i'd buy a house, and then another one before I bought one of those.

FT86 looks EPIC. Any ideas on what powerplant its running? Loving the rear wing.

You have a V3 motor, yes? Why don't you just piece together a new motor? You could buy a cheap, bunky EJ20G long motor to put in your car while you stripped your V3 STi motor and refresh it. Check condition of the pistons/crank/rods and give everything a good clean. Bang it back together with new bearings and 11mm headstuds and she'll be right for plenty of abuse. V3 STi EJ20Ks often chew big-end bearings or dust head gaskets. Replacing all this - either recoing what you've got now, or spending big on a new EJ207 - is the smartest way to go. Undertaking a V7 conversion isn't the smartest thing IMO as it's more untested, unknown gear. Seeing how you already have a V3 STi long motor, why not take the cheaper, safer option and reco it?

As for the box, change the fluid every 10k km with Castrol Multitrax and add 2 tubes of Nulon G70. Make sure your shifter bushes are in good nick and she'll be right.

Interesting that they are using the boxer motor.

I woulda thought a 4AGZE or something.

a TT 1UZFE in one of those would be awesome.

4AG is well past emissions restrictions, as is pretty much all their hi-po 4cyls (2zz et al)

1UZ is a poonugget motor. LS1 > 1UZ... Even the 2UR isn't that great.

Iain, negative on the v3 motor it's a 96 wrx jdm block aparantly.

Though what you have written has been my thoughts vs the v7, time and cash will tell my ultimate decision I guess.

Right, well I reckon you can piece together something better than an import V7 motor for a similar cost, with none of the wiring hassles.

One of several options:

1. EJ255, add CP pistons, get pistons modified to take bigger oil ring (to stop consumption), buy 98 WRX or V3 STi heads, buy aftermarket headers, use factory gaskets/timing belt, put it together at home (easy to do), add good clutch/6MT. Add aftermarket ECU + 650cc injectors + TD06 if you want +200kW @ wheels
2. EJ255, 98 WRX heads, VF23, headers, FMIC, put together at home, enjoy 180-190kW @ wheels with stupid torque
3. EJ207, 98 WRX/V3 STi heads, VF23, use factory gaskets/timing belt, put it together at home. That'll make up 180 @ wheels, or 200 @ wheels with ECU, bigger injectors (STi 550s in a Carl Davey kit) and 23psi

I'll PM you about some cheaper engine options if you want (get this tech crap outta the GT)

Imagine if this happened.

and they did an episode to prove a F1 car can drive up-side down.

I'd pay money to see that.
