I have a 1998 Subaru Liberty RX, with an Ej22.
Plates in engine say RX, Plates in engine with same VIN number also say EJ22. i was under the impression all 98 RX were delivered from factory with a EJ25, is this correct? Im stumped, i have no idea why i have an EJ22. NRMA have the car listed as a RX with an EJ25 from the VIN. And my Rego papers say its a GX EJ22. Any ideas? Doesnt bother me the slightest, but id still like to know why..
Thanks in advance.

All RX's came with an EJ25 so if it is an EJ22 it would've had a transplant at some stage.

my guess is that its the stock motor in the stock shell and its just a gx liberty with rx frontbar and kit

well there is 2 things that could have been done since your car has been written off
either your vin plates are from a gx and have been put on an rx shell and a gx motor put in, highly unlikely and verrry illegal
or the guy you bought it off upgraded alot of the body and interior parts to make it look like an rx, which alot of people do

Does it have climate control?

It does not have climate control. I think this solves our little problem

rx kit on gx= win

I did way up the option of buyin a gx and doing the rx kit just to avoid the EJ25 head gasket issues. The car i found was a rushed decision, but did tick all the boxes. Got stuffed around by several sellers in sydney and was in desperate need of a vehicle. Picked this up from newcastle and all was sweet

And better than an LX with an RX body kit!

That was the first thing i did when i looked at the car, jumped under and checked for a rear diff and cv's haha. Its my first car and im happy as. Not after performance or anything anyway. just looks and a nice sound. not achieving the looks at the moment, due to the previous owners terrible taste in wheels, but im doing alright in the exhaust side of things

It is the best of both worlds. Bullet proof EJ22 with the sexy RX look. Slightly less powerful but no need to worry about heagaskets failing and its only your first car so can't go wrong
