Okay, so I got my car insurance information today.

I am currently with AAMI, no problems there, BUT:
New insurance policy came through, along with a phone call saying that, Seeing as my car has hit 12 Years Old, the agreed value has dropped from $8700 to $6500. Thats bullshit. The Annual Insurance is $784 with an excess of $625 + $1400.

So Im asking you, who are you with and what do you pay, I have 3 weeks of insurance left, and am hoping for a much better deal.

Thanks
-Jordan

Hi,

Market value can change, but your agreed is what you've specified within reason.

Shop around, get a cheaper quote, and tell AAMI you want them to beat it. Not just match it, because you're already uneasy about what next year might bring with them.

Cheers,
Nik

Hi,

Is it under your Dad's name? Are you named as the primary?

If the answer to this is yes and yes, just get your Dad to say you've bought your own car which you are insuring yourself, and make you an occasional on the policy.

Cheers,
Nik

I used to be with AAMI but now I’ve got both cars insured through Shannons. I think I pay about $750 for the Foz with agreed value of $18,000 and my Liberty costs $350 (limited use) with agreed value of $20,000

I also get a discount for having my CAMS licence

Car policy and car are in dads name, with me as an occasional driver.

Hi,

Comparing insurance prices is redundant as everyone has a different situation.

Jordan is on his P's, Aek.

@Jordan: Exactly what I'd do. Be confident that you can get a better deal. You can.

Nik

That's a big drop in value! I sold my Liberty a few months before it turned 12 so I can't comment on that.

Definitely shop around though, or at least call AAMI and bump that value up. There's gotta be a better deal out there.

Alternate plan, sell car and buy something else?

That's a little confusing, how can they drop the agreed value without you agreeing with it?

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

Hi,

They can change it whenever they so please, but to be fully agreed you have to.... well, agree to it.

They do this so that when you say you want it insured for more, they bump up your premium to counter. Or more recently, they seem to boost the excess - because noone ever thinks that anything is ever going to go wrong - why the Posted Image are you buying insurance if you don't think anything is going to happen.... Ugh. People.

Cheers,
Nik

Get other quotes in your dads name.

I'm still going under my dads name because it's just not worth it otherwise

Ah right. That's an advantage with AAMI. Even if you are the youngest driver, you don't have to list it.
