my brother had a crash in his SP23 and had aftermarket rims on but wernt on the policy, he told them and all thay done was sent him a cheque for the value of the wheels.

but i do find it funny how one insurance company can be cheap for one car but expencive for another, yet you go to another company and its around the the other way

You can do a free driving course in Sydney with aami and you get 10% of your premium

http://www.aami.com.au/skilled-drivers

My impreza is insured for 12k, and I pay $700yr for full comp with 2k excess. All in my name.

Did you choose that 12k?

Nah that's market value.

Yeah it's a bit much, but saves me heaps in premium.

I know,
But try buying a decent for that. For a decent manual one, you're looking 7-8 at least.

I think what alexxx is getting at is that your policy is not agreed value, it's market value...

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

do you think the insurance companies think that? they want to pay you as little money as possible if your car is written off and charge you as much as they can get away with.

harsh truth mate, owning/modifying cars sucks balls.

AAMI have a reputation as being a bit dodgy, look at companies like GIO, NRMA or Shannon's. I'd avoid insurers like budget direct and just car, just car are just another part of AAMI.

Read your PDS under the car value section and see what it says about the car values there

I've never had any problems with AAMI. Made three claims in the last 3 years.

All our cars are with them and always have been..

I worked in motor claims at Allianz for a bit over a year. AAMI can be difficult to deal with and whose at fault makes a big difference with them.

We had one that was my fault. Ran into someone else on a Friday night. Car was being assessed Monday morning and the following Wednesday I had my car back

Second was a write off. Mrs rolled her car. Lodged a claim and the money was put straight into her account within two weeks or something.

Third was someone else's fault. From the accident happening to me picking up the car after repairs took one month. This couldve been sped up a whole lot if I'd gotten off my arse and got my own quotes quicker!

Girlfriend made a claim through AAMI and they were quite good. Had the money within a week.
They did keep ringing to ask if we were going to renew the insurance on the written off car though...

If it's underwritten by Suncorp, its all the same shit with a different smell :P to be honest all they want is your premium. I was at fault with my claim through AAMI and I had a new bumper by the end of the week. Hopefully I'll never need to claim a writeoff, but if it means saving myself up to $1200/yr in premiums, so be it. I wouldn't go with some no-name one.

Shannons doesn't seem to like the fact I am under 25, or my postcode lol. My renewal is next month.

Why renew the policy on a written off car? Was it a repairable write off?

Im with Shannons and have an agreed value of 18,000 on the Legacy which I think is pretty reasonable. I had to send them some pictures of the car as they didnt have any other BH Legacys on file and they had it valued. I can also have unlimited mods and they dont seem to affect my policy. The downside is they arent that cheap, around 1200 a year.

I was with AAMI but found that they don't insure cars over 10 years for any reasonable amount of money. Also the way AAMI do repairs - get 3 quotes, cheapest quote wins and you're the one that ends up getting screwed. Car got sent back 4 times for the one repair after someone backed into me in a carpark.

Turned 25, went straight to Shannons. Agreed value, $350 excess with change from $1200/year. Shannons honoured Rating 1 for Life = Win!!

Claims with Shannons are easy, already had a free windscreen and some panel work repaired. No fuss - choice of repairer.

my 2c.
