Jason, is it relatively simple to convert the below 6cyl Kingswood (202?) from 3sp auto to a 4 or 5 on the floor manual?
No matter what engine as all red motors have the same crank and housing patterns.
To convert as per factory you will need:
Gearbox (obviously) A M20 is the standard wide ratio box for the 6cyl
Bell housing
Clutch
Clutch 'rabbit trap' the God awful mechanical clutch arrangement that these things ran (from memory a cable that converted to push via a linkage arrangement)
Shifter as these are external shift (you could use a Speco aftermarket if you wish)
Tailshaft 'should' fit (Trimatic is same spline IIRC)
Pedal box including clutch pedal.
You will also need to rewire the rev lamps and bypass the neutral start.
Thats about it.
For a 5 speed, most people go for a 5speed steel case Celica box.
I would try to buy the entire conversion kit if you can find one.
They use a unique clutch plate with the Holden pressure plate so a clutch job down the track will require a bit of homework.
You will also need to cut a hole in the floor for the gearstick and this may foul on the bench seat (if fitted).
The old column shift arrangement will need to be stripped from the steering column. (looks odd with two gear sticks)
That's about it.
Hardest part it assembling all the bits.
If it were mine, I'd leave it 'three on the tree'
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
