Turbo 2.9+ E30s have a habit of walking sleeves/bores as they're so goddamn thin. If ye be wantin' a turbo, the way to go is an S50 short motor jammed with forged pistons and rods. Forged, iron-block 3.0L/3.2L which will make 2JZ-esque powahs with the right supporting mods.

3.1L stroker forged crank (e36 m3 3.2L crank) 89.6mm stroke
325e reconditioned block (bored 5mm)
3.1L Crank scraper
Ported 325 intake and bored TB with oversized butterfly
Lightened flywheel
Sachs clutch (adjusted weight)

Built BMW M20, bored out to a 3.1 stroker.
Oversized valves, forged pistons, 288 cam, bigger throttle body, lightened flywheel.. refer to post above.
Pulls 180rwkw and around 335nm torque..
Should be fun fun fun in an 1100kg RWD car like mine!!
