I'll retract my above statement and say Gen3 Outbacks delifted are the bomb. Its the Outback chunkier bars and side moulds that make it. :D

Ha, thanks alot everyone for the input, really helped my decision making.
After a lifetime of searching (read: 6 months) I was lucky enough to come across a nice 2Gen Liberty Sedan, which thankfully was close to where I live in NSW (had to look around Sydney at one point, 1 1/2 hours from my area).
This in particular is one I am seriously considering, got an inspection the other day, most things in good working order, done just short of 200 000 km but what can you expect from a car this age (MY98)
One thing that was mentioned in particular was that there was a considerable oil leak, which may be a camshaft seal or something more serious, as it is unknown until the engine is taken completely apart.
If I go ahead with this Liberty (and its a Blistein Edition so many good features to begin with), what is the likely cost of getting replacement Camshaft seals (the original owner has agreed to fit them as necessary and other required work) and do you guys recommend a particular source of good Subaru Parts?
Thanks for all the help.

"It had its head gasket, timing belt kit, and clutch replaced in 2008 (not due for another 30,000km)"
"REG EXPIRY - August 2011"

Meaning, in give or take 20-30K you'll need to spend approximately 1 grand on the service.
In 2 months you'll need to spend approximately another $800 on registering (green slip $550, rego $250, pink slip $30)

Yes, I spoke to him already, all was clear enough.
Is there a recommended source for good Subaru parts at all?

Hi guys, hope bumping this thread isn't a huge deal.

Yesterday I had my Gen3 GX Liberty stolen right from out of my driveway. Massively pissed off, but fortunately i'm insured.

Since the odds of it being found and returned are quite slim, i've been thinking that when insurance pays out I may 'upgrade' to a B4, ever since I discovered it existed it has nagged at me that I really want one.
I really loved my GX Liberty apart from the fact it lacked in the power department. One of the previous owners had put some obnoxious STI stickers that covered half the windscreen, and 17" alloys that you'd find on a 06-07 WRX (i think) and an aftermarket spoiler to sikk it up.

My budget would be around 10k at best. Browsing around, i've found a few examples for ~10k that seem reasonable, and even one for 8k, although the listing is poor. Would I be able to get a good specimen for about that price? Is there a wiser option?

Any info at all would be awesome.

If you can stretch to $15k, there are some decent Gen4 GT's around which would be a far better choice than the B4... Although the B4s are incredibly cheap at the moment!

Sucks to hear about your Liberty.

Yeah, one of those GTs caught my eye. I think 15k would be pushing it though, unfortunately.

Oh, and the one I found was also auto. Unless the autos are exceptional i'd much prefer manual.

WA's range of cars for sale is pretty weak, unfortunately.
